Sophie Bramsen on slow living and enjoying the small things in life

Sophie Bramsen dreamed of a getaway with her partner Simon and daughter Agnes in peaceful surroundings embraced by beautiful nature. Together, they travelled to Louise's cabin near Udsholt Beach, where they could truly slow down and simply enjoy spending time together. Read about how they chose the perfect cabin, the gems they discovered in the local area, and find inspiration in the way they spend time together.

Plan your next getaway

Slow living, family life and finding the joy in all the small things life has to offer that most people overlook. There are many ways to describe the way Content creator and nursing student Sophie Bramsen and her partner Simon, who runs the restaurant chain Garbanzo in Copenhagen, approach life.

A life with little Agnes at just 8 months old, new roles as parents, delicious culinary experiences, and deep conversations under the duvet on the sofa. But even though everyday moments are filled with glimmers, it's a little bit easier to tap into joy when you can unplug and take a break from work, studies, routines, and laundry – especially in a busy month like December. The little family decided to go away together a week before Christmas to really unwind and recharge for all the upcoming social events and enjoy a few undisturbed days together. Just the three of them.

How was the journey from Copenhagen to the holiday home near Udsholt Beach?

We didn't have to go far. We live in Frederiksberg and we found a holiday home near Gilleleje. We drove off in the afternoon and checked in just 30 minutes later, yet the surroundings made it feel like we were standing by the ocean much further north. It was fantastic.

What were the most important aspects for you when choosing a cabin?

We wanted a large functional kitchen, a cabin with gorgeous aesthetics and stunning details, and somewhere close to beautiful nature where we could take truly deep breaths and relax. I am really a sucker for aesthetics, architecture, and especially Danish design. I find inner peace when I'm in places that also reflect peace.

My partner and I both really enjoy the small things in life. Good freshly brewed coffee, fresh ingredients, and sustainability are really paramount when we want to indulge. So what could be better than finding a holiday home that both has a large and functional kitchen, and a beautiful aesthetic expression? We used the filters on the website when researching which holiday homes would best suit us and our needs.

What things did you appreciate most about the holiday home?

Louise's holiday home was truly a delight. We loved the large open kitchen where Simon could cook and we could still be together while I laid on the sofa with Agnes. We also greatly appreciated the location. Living on the beach allowed us to take long walks on the winding paths.

Adamsens Fisk

What did you like the most about the local area, and did you find any hidden gems you'd recommend others to visit?

We shared a fish fillet and homemade fish cakes at Adamsens Fisk on the harbour in Gilleleje. It was really delicious, and we have to go back there in the summer when the sun is shining. We also visited the swimming pool in Helsinge to do something fun and nice for Agnes followed by the mandatory french fries and cola. Huge success.

How do you spend your time together as a family when you go away together, and how is it different from your everyday lives?

When we go away together, we have time for everything we don't have time for at home. We travel with cards, our favourite game "The Battle of Frederiksberg," lots of yummy food, lemonades, and snacks, take long baths, go for walks wrapped in wool, and watch old Danish series.

Personally, I bring a small notebook that always accompanies me. I like to take some time to write down how I feel in my body. It doesn't have to take more than 5 minutes, but I feel like I gain more control over my nervous system by writing it down. I also like to spend time on my evening routine, which is very valuable to me. I wash my face in cold water, use my favourite creams, and dry brush my skin. I feel like I’m "brushing the day off," so I'm ready to go to bed.

What means the most to you about being able to take a break from everyday life with your family?

The most important thing for me is that we, as a family, get to really be present together. We automatically talk about completely different things than we usually do as new parents within the framework of everyday life at home. We reminisce, laugh, and have deeper conversations. I'm sure it's because you automatically slow down when you're in a holiday home far away from everyday life and truly get to relax. I really appreciate that.

What does luxury mean to you when taking your family on a getaway?

Freshly washed sheets, clean rooms, fresh candles, skincare, and a glass of ice-cold white wine or a good cup of coffee mean PURE luxury to me. I love it when it feels a bit like being in a hotel, but in a holiday home. That the host has attention to detail and might have left a little something for us, so that we feel welcome and can settle in.

Is there anything you would highlight about booking through Landfolk?

One of the best things about Landfolk is that you don't really have to think much, apart from where you want to go and what your needs are, of course. Everything is so well thought out, and there are so many homes to choose from while it's also very clear that the selection on the site is carefully curated. I appreciate that. You are well taken care of and feel safe throughout the entire process. And in my opinion, what you see is what you get.

I had been following Landfolk on Instagram, almost since they launched - and heard really good things about both the holiday homes and the handling of the booking process. For me, it really helps to get out into nature when I need to relax. So there wasn't much doubt about where to look for our next getaway when we decided to go away for a few days. Namely, at Landfolk.

Where do you dream of travelling next?

I dream of inviting my little family on a trip to Sweden, Norway, or Southern Jutland. I have found so many gorgeous cabins in Southern Jutland with great attention to detail, like Danish design, beautiful architecture, and close to the coast. Experiencing the Swedish countryside, in a charming red cabin in the woods where we can pick mushrooms and berries, is also high on the wish list, and I have never been to Norway.
