Upper Lusatia welcomes visitors with a hearty originality. Nature lovers explore the Zittau Mountains or Saxon Switzerland, while Görlitz and Zittau attract culture fans with their picturesque city centers. The architecture of the area is dominated by half-timbered houses, which are characteristic of the border triangle. This gem from 1831 takes you on a journey through time.
When renovating the house of a former cloth merchant, Christina and Tom took care not to let the visible signs of the eras disappear. Behind the massive oak door, the journey goes from late baroque to classicism to art deco and modern elements.
With its 260 m², the house offers plenty of space for a large family or group of friends. The five bedrooms are quiet retreats with individual character. On the first floor, the 50 m² suite with four-poster bed is a true Art Deco dream. Under the old beams, restored original wallpaper with gold molding from the 1920s adorns the walls. In the ensuite bathroom, craquelé tiles add a historic flair. An antique Chinese wedding cabinet and vintage Berber rug create a unique mix of styles from different continents in the bedroom behind the iron-framed door. In addition, behind thick granite walls, there is a sauna for relaxing hours.
Upstairs, three more charming bedrooms with their own character await you. Here you can also retreat to the living room in the original 60s style. The dining room next door invites you to get together: At the 3.40-meter-long table next to the crackling Meissen tiled stove, you can plan the trips for the next few days while eating together. The adjoining kitchen leaves nothing to be desired by hobby cooks and offers a 90cm wide Smeg stove as well as an old kitchen oven with wood burning. If you would like to have a full fridge with local goods on arrival, please contact Christina and Tom in time.
The house also offers you a lot of space outside. On two terraces you can enjoy the fresh air, surrounded by the scent of herbs. In the wild garden, children explore the fallen apple tree, while you lie in the sun in a deck chair or fire up the grill.
Tourism Fee not included
A Tourism Fee is a mandatory fee that you have to pay when visiting certain tourism areas in Germany. The fee is not included in the price because it depends on where you stay, how many nights you stay, how old you are and if you’re bringing your dog. The fee usually varies between €0 and €4 per adult per night, but may be 5% in certain areas, such as Berlin. It should be settled with the host upon arrival.

The historic building takes guests on a journey through the eras of architectural history, from late Baroque to Art Deco
The 3.40 meter long table in the dining room is the central meeting point for convivial evenings
The wild garden offers plenty of space to breathe amid wildflowers and fragrant herbs
In search of a new sustainable tourism project, we, Christina and Tom, made our way from Lake Baikal in faraway Siberia back to the Wild East of Germany, the Upper Lusatia. Rather by chance we came across this historic Umgebindehaus from 1831 and just couldn't say 'no'. During the renovation it was important to us to preserve and emphasize the many visible signs from various architectural eras. The house takes guests on a journey through time, where you can discover many exciting details. But there is not only much to see in the house: The surrounding area also offers a fascinating cultural history that has many exciting explorations in store. What we particularly love about Upper Lusatia, however, is that it is the opposite of the anonymous big city. The warmth of the locals always makes for congenial encounters and interesting conversations.
