Enjoy the scenic dune landscape from a traditional Danish log house

Skagen, Denmark

Highlights from Katrine & Claus

  1. Enjoy the beautiful 360 degree view of the dune landscape
  2. Experience peace and birdlife while being close to a wealth of sights
  3. Jump in the blue wave and take a bath under the outdoor shower on the terrace

In the middle of the rough dune landscape, in Kandestederne on Skagens Odde, lies this dream of a log summer house. Just 300 metres to the west you can take a dip in the Skagerak, while to the east you can experience Denmark's largest hiking retreat, Råbjerg Mile. The summer house is built in traditional style in the finest sense of the word. The main house was renovated in 2007 with three lovely bedrooms, and if you want to wake up all to yourself with a view of the dunes, you can find space in the small annex. The exposed beams and the homely, personal decor mean that you immediately feel a warm and cosy atmosphere the moment you step inside. From the open kitchen you'll find a lovely dining area with room for the whole family, a lovely little workspace for those loose errands and a sofa corner where you can snuggle up in front of the wood-burning stove. From the heart of the house, there is access to a large wooden terrace that surrounds the entire house. Here you can barbecue on a sunny summer evening, take a rinse under the house's two outdoor showers or simply enjoy the view of the children playing in the dune landscape. You can also enjoy nature in peace and quiet, go mountain biking in the area or discover the Skagen painters and Grenen just 20 minutes away.

Meet your host

Katrine & Claus

Host since January 2022

Our names are Katrine and Claus and we live in North Zealand. Our family has had the cottage for 15 years and we call it our second home. We spend time at the cottage every month throughout the year, both summer and winter. I, Katrine, have been coming to the area since childhood, and I have spent several summers and holidays here. Both my husband and I are self-employed, and I run the company Önling, where I am a knitwear designer and my Claus is an independent consultant specialising in futurology and meetings. The summer house is our sanctuary, where we get renewed energy. We relax, take a dip in the sea and go for long walks in the wonderful countryside. I love to go for a ride on Icelandic horses and Claus enjoys bike rides on his mountain bikes. We would recommend visiting the local 'Butcher Jensen' in Skagen. He makes without a doubt the best steaks in the world and then the Kandesteder is just fantastic all year round. And don't miss visiting Dorthe Hansen Keramik at Sørig Gl. Skole, she makes the most beautiful mugs and ceramics and serves the best cakes in her café in season. You can find some of Dorthe's ceramics in both our homes.
