We are a family of five consisting of two adults and three small children, who have long been looking for the right cottage and cottage atmosphere. We were looking for a strong contrast to suburban life in Copenhagen and the many ordinary houses with sunken ceilings, white walls, large windows and a microscopic garden. For us, it was essential that the cottage had soul and atmosphere, and it had to be a genuine log house with a high level of modern comfort. Not least with high ceilings and a reasonably sized garden with space for both football and biodiversity. After searching for just under a year, we finally found it and then spruced it up even further, including our top quality 2-room sauna.
We love being in the house and enjoying the silence and atmosphere, not to mention going to the sauna when the kids are tucked up. We enjoy good food, BBQ and socializing with friends who can easily visit us because it is easy to get to from the Copenhagen area.
When we are not at the cottage we go down to the beach, which is the most child friendly beach on Hornsherred with very low tide and calm fjord water. We also have paddle-boards, which are fun to row on in the Isefjord. There is a nice forest within walking distance, so we are there often.
By car you can easily get to Hansens Dairy, which is the original dairy that makes Hansens Ice Cream. You can also pick your own organic strawberries at Svanholm Estate and enjoy the large and deep forest there. It is also not far to sights such as Jægerspris Castle, Selsø Castle, Kulhuse and the ferry ride to Orø. For restaurants there is Gerlev inn, which is very popular otherwise you can quickly drive to Frederikssund - here there are many restaurants to choose from.
