Get absolute peace of mind by listening to birdsong, the roar of the waves and the rustle of the wind in the treetops. Brüel's house is one of the first A-houses with the finest thatched roof. It was built in 1918 by the architect and master carpenter Rasmus Brüel, who for a number of years also used the cottage with his family. His signature was ingenious constructions and functional solutions, and with the A-house from 1918, a secure architectural grip is demonstrated. The cottage has been designated as worthy of preservation, and here is decorated with respect for history. The living room's varnished and wide floorboards and the continuous brown beams have set the direction for the furnishing of the house, which predominantly plays on the dark shades. The atmosphere and decor give you the feeling of calm, coziness and it's a bit like being in a hunting lodge. The heart and focal point of the house is the large living room and kitchen in one. In the center of the living room there is an old English fireplace (with wood burning stove) and the kitchen is furnished with large windows with lots of light and views of the lake and meadow. The fine A-house offers plenty of sleeping space. On the ground floor there is a guest room and on the first floor there is at one end a large master bedroom with a view to the sea. At the other end of the house there are two rooms en suite with single beds and direct view into the forest, which starts a few meters from the facade of the house. The three terraces invite you to be together at different times of the day - on the first beautiful terrace you can enjoy your morning coffee with peace of mind and the morning red rays of the sun on your face. On the large south-facing terrace there is space for living and dining with sun from morning to evening - here you can sunbathe and relax. The last terrace is covered and faces the forest. Around the house there is also a lovely natural garden with a small piece of grass. In the middle of the natural area, many different species of animals come: owls, deer, foxes and pheasants look past regularly, and if you provide fresh water in the birdbath every day, you get the opportunity to experience the richest bird life in the middle of the garden.

Meet your host

Dorte & Mike

We are a family with two school-age children and two adults. We live on Islands Brygge in Copenhagen, and the cottage is to that extent our sanctuary. In the middle of protected nature, we relax on holidays and weekends all year round. The house is located on Sandvejen, a two kilometer long gravel road along the coast with only 30 houses, more than half of which are worthy of preservation, just as several of the houses have been around for 100 years. Sandvejen is a living monument to the architectural history of the summer country. The atmosphere is rounded by the special serene life on the coast. We enjoy the authentic rural idyll as much as we love the beauty and ubiquitous species diversity that the area's nature offers. We enjoy the silence of the area and the daily walk, where in just half an hour you get around untouched forest, beach meadow and beach with the most beautiful views. We are also there to say hello to the goats that are walking on the meadow opposite the house. It is difficult to select a few favorite areas near the cottage, because it is absolutely fantastic to go exploring in ancient peace forest with twisted trees and a rolling forest floor of flint. It is also incredibly nice to walk out on the beaches with sheep, goats, cows, wild horses and lots of bird life. We cultivate the child-friendly sandy beach with unheard of few people and immerse ourselves in fantastic stargazing in the middle of Dark Sky Park Møn. The cottage is called Brüel House, named after the architect Rasmus Brüel (1870-1936). The house has been rebuilt several times before our time, but with careful steps we are in the process of bringing the house back to its original architecture based on architect Brüel's own drawing material, which hangs in the guest room.
