It was everything we needed – a quiet family getaway far from the city
With a busy everyday schedule and a great love for life in the city, a quiet New Year's celebration by the ocean in Tisvildeleje still felt like the obvious choice for Josephine Aarkrogh's family. They wanted to be surrounded by nature in a calm and aesthetic space where they could welcome the new year with their friends.
Aesthetics is an important part of Josephine Aarkrogh's work life. She is Creative Director at ELLE Denmark, and aesthetics is something she brings with her in everything she does. From her everyday life with afternoons on the playground with their children, to pockets of alone time where exercise, long baths or moments of calm with a good cup of coffee. Aesthetics were no less important when she was looking for the perfect holiday home for her family to celebrate New Year together. A hint of luxury, proximity to the beach and enough space for the children to play were at the top of her wish list.
When they had found their dream holiday home, the little family, with her husband and their two children aged 1 year and 5 years old, left Copenhagen behind and drove north. There, they welcomed the new year with their friends, with kids the same age as theirs, in serene surroundings with space to truly slow down and just enjoy their time together.

How was the journey from Copenhagen to the holiday home in Tisvildeleje
It was fast and easy. It only took 50 minutes, which is a huge advantage when you’ve got small kids in the car.
What were the most important aspects for you when choosing a holiday home?
When we were looking for a holiday home, we wanted something that felt a bit luxurious and offered enough space for all of us. Being within walking distance to the beach was also high on our wish list.
What things did you appreciate most about the holiday home?
The house was newly renovated and just really lovely. We had lots of space, which is super nice when you have kids. The house also had a great coffee machine, which was a lovely surprise.
What did you like the most about the local area, and did you find any hidden gems you'd recommend others to visit?
The beach was our favourite thing in the area. And it was truly beautiful, even though it was very cold.

What means the most to you about being able to take a break from everyday life with your family?
One of the best things about being away together is being able to just be together. There are less chores than at home, which makes it possible for us to spend time together in a different way. I really enjoy that.

It was quiet and intimate, which was exactly what we were looking for when we planned our New Year’s getaway.
What does luxury mean to you when taking your family on a getaway?
For me, luxury consists of all the small things in life ~ like enjoying a cup of coffee.

Where do you dream of travelling next?
It might be the season, more than the destination, I dream of the most; a warm spring or early summer would be ideal for our next getaway so that we can spend more time together outside.
