Møllers Mikrobageri
Bakeries are at the heart of the Danish summer experience, and this little gem is well worth a visit. Pernille and Niels, who lived in Copenhagen, moved back to West Jutland where they are both from, and started the bakery of their dreams. With homemade jam, grains from the surrounding farms, eggs from Toftegård Økologi and coffee from a small micro roastery on Fanø and Prolog in Copenhagen, they have curated a culinary experience to get your summer days started just right. Later this year, they are driving the family van to Italy to delve into pasta and pizza and bring inspiration back home so that they can start hosting long table dinners with pizza and natural wine – so, make sure to add them to your itinerary next summer too.

Toftegård Økologi Farm Shop
If cooking with delicious fresh, local produce is essential to your summer holiday, the farm shop Toftegård Økologi is the place to go. The family business owns a farm on 110 hectares of land and supplies local restaurants like Brasserie Hav, Cafe Stranden, and Kroghuset. Here, you can buy beef, pork, chicken, lamb, and a wide variety of vegetables. This summer, they are also planning to host brunch and yoga events throughout the summer, so make sure you check their calendar if you are visiting.

Experience

Whether you want to explore charming coastal towns, eat your way through the local bakeries or have a more action packed vacation, the west coast of Denmark has something for the whole family.

  • The west coast is known for its powerful waves and strong winds so it’s not surprising that it has gained status as one of the best places to surf in the Nordics. At the surf café Westwind in Hvide Sande, you can get a refreshing ice cream or affogato, soak up the sun and take surfing lessons.

  • At the beach in Hvide Sande you can contribute to the process of transforming plastic waste into granules that can be used to make fun things. Join Omhu’s weekly beach cleanup where people come together and collect trash from the beach.

  • Summer is all about slowing down, lowering your shoulders and taking those deep breaths that our everyday lives in the city don’t always allow. If you visit Hvide Sande, you can try beach yoga, where your experience will include warm sand between your toes, sun on your face and a refreshing dip in the ocean.

  • Enjoy the rich cultural, historical and architectural experience that is FLUGT, a refugee museum on the west coast that explores what it means to flee your home as a refugee.

  • The west coast is known for many things, and biking is among the very best things you can experience when visiting. The landscape har lots of charming routes leading you down winding trails through the sand dunes along the coast. Bagges Dæmning is a nice trail for the whole family, mountain bikers have a plethora of routes in the dunes, and for those who want a little bit of a challenge, the trail taking you around Rindkøbing Fjord is a great choice.

Travel

The west coast has a lot to offer. And besides, charming towns by the sea, ice cream shops, bakeries and a rich cultural scene, this also includes the very easy access to Denmark's neighbouring countries Germany and Norway. This means that the west coast is very easily accessible if you are travelling to a Landfolk house.

  • If you are driving from Germany you simply cross the southern border of Denmark and can start your west coast adventure almost immediately. Choose the winding roads that lead you all the way along the coast from the south and explore the coastal towns and local specialities on your way to your holiday destination.

  • If you are driving from Norway you catch the ferry from Larvik or Kristiansand to Hirtshals and follow the scenic roads that lead you south along the west coast. Make sure to stop along the way to enjoy local coffee, pastries, fresh seafood and the gorgeous views.

While the wide beaches and the strong winds are the best known parts of the west coast holiday experience, we hope that our tried and tested gems can inspire your very own version of the perfect holiday by the sea.
