Inspired by the landscape that surrounds it, this unique cabin built from the local woods of the area sits almost at the water's edge with breathtaking sea and mountain views. If design, architecture and breathtaking scenery are at the top of your wish list, this one-of-a-kind, architect-designed gem of a cabin is perfect for you. Let it be the setting for your romantic getaway or take the whole family on a cabin trip.

As you enter the cabin, you'll be greeted by the large kitchen-dining room, with high ceilings and an impressive window section. The view of the nature that embraces the cabin, accompanied by the beautiful light, the sight of eagles soaring in the sky and the scent of oak, makes it feel like nature has entered the cabin. Here there are no lights from civilization, here you are completely alone with the formidable starry sky.

The centerpiece of the room is the comfortable sofa, which stands in the middle of the room with a fantastic view. Here you can enjoy the view with a cup of coffee and the crackling of the fireplace. The cabin is furnished with plenty of nice places to sit down and enjoy life, and both the kitchen and the long dining table invite you to cozy up, have long conversations and enjoy delicious meals.

The annex overlooks the water, the mighty mountains and beautiful forests. If you're lucky, in summer you'll be woken up by the sheep grazing outside and can lie back and listen to the sound of the bells and enjoy the view with your first cup of coffee of the day. From the loft you can see straight up to Kistefjellet and Gråfjell. Both places are also perfect for retreating after an active day of hiking together.

The area around the cabin offers many great experiences, with climbing, swimming and hiking at the top of the list. When you return from a day of adventure, you can cook dinner together in the gorgeous kitchen and enjoy the meal, the view and each other's company either inside or outside, and roast marshmallows on the fire pit for dessert while enjoying the sunset.

My husband John Arve and I built the cabin with a separate annex in spring 2017-2018. If you are two couples or families, you have access to a bedroom and kitchen in both the main cabin and the annex.

We bought the plot back in 2011 and after countless suggestions and wishes, we contacted architect Bryon Murdock who designed our dream. The cabin is located in an area characterized by large rocks that have been there since the last ice age. There is something infinite and safe about this long timeline. Berglyd, where the cabin is located, is also an old Viking site that is written about in a Scandinavian saga, with the Viking Orvar Odd as the main character.

We have chosen to clad the interior of the cabin with oak and larch outside, because this reflects the types of wood in the area, and all the oak in the interior is sanded by hand. "Winter oak is exciting, with lots of patterns and twigs. There's something eternal and permanent about these types of wood. Initially, we didn't intend to use so much oak paneling on the walls, but we liked it so much when we started putting it up that one room became all of them, more or less. Even the furniture in the bathroom, bedroom and living room was built in oak by our skilled carpenter. The exception is the loft, where we used poplar boards.

We love being here, especially on sunny days, where the sun comes early, early in the morning and the mountains are dressed in a pink hue in the evening. The starry sky at night is magical, because you're not exposed to any other lights from cabins or houses. Sitting in the hot tub in the evening here just has to be experienced. Being at the cabin is a sensory experience for us. The sea that sparkles or showers white. Sheep bells, bird life, the good sounds of nature. Clean water, clear rivers and streams that tempt you to take a dip all year round. And with countless hiking opportunities right outside the door, there's plenty to do here.

Some of the experiences we appreciate the most are the trip to Nesvåghåla, a cave by the sea, the trip to Hådyr, which is a sailing mark from the Viking Age - a high round cliff about 100 meters straight out of the sea that is whitewashed, and generally exploring the geology of Sokndal, with unique rocks, mines and hiking opportunities. Northern Europe's largest motocross track can also be found in Sokndal. In addition, Hauge in Dalane with its shops is only 17 minutes away by car.
