What is Landfolk?
We do that by finding and handpicking the most wonderful and unique summer houses every day. We believe aesthetics, quality, scenic locations and personality are important parts of any vacation and getaway.
Not only are our holiday homes places you would not otherwise have access to. Our ambition is also to make it the most delightful experience to find and book them on our platform.
At the same time, we create a community for our hosts, where we make it easy, fun and inspiring to be a summer house owner.
The (very short) story of Landfolk, so far …
Founded in Aarhus, Denmark
Landfolk was founded on 1 February 2021 by seven former colleagues from Airbnb. The idea was born out of a love for vacationing in holiday homes, but also the personal frustration of what a tedious and uninspiring experience it more often than not was to find and book a unique holiday home.
100 summer houses live
Landfolk would never be where it is today if not for our first brave hosts. We owe so much to them for their trust and willingness to join Landfolk even before there was a platform.
We move into the Landfolk HQ
Every great startup story begins in a basement or garage, right? Ours did too, so it was a game changer when we moved into a real office in the old and newly renovated Sct. Joseph’s Hospital in one of the oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods of Aarhus.
Our launch in Germany
Going live with our platform in the German language was a big milestone. We believe travel is changing across the globe and we want to help a new generation of city dwellers to reconnect with the people they love in beautiful surroundings and bring them closer to nature.
We receive a big investment
Our first investment is a great validation of Landfolk’s vision to build the world’s most preferred hospitality brand of second homes. It gave us bigger wings to fulfill our ambitious goals with a 25 people strong team!
500 summer houses
We can’t do it without our fantastic hosts and that’s why our celebration of 500 summer house owners deserves a place in our history book. 500 families trusting us with their second homes – that’s amazing!
Summer House Makeovers
Our very first (and maybe not last?) film production! We’re ambitious, and we couldn’t stop dreaming about giving a summer house makeover to someone. Together with Karup Design, two DIY teams, two summer houses with potential, and in only three days Summer House Makeovers was born.
Hei Norge!
For the first time ever, we were thrilled to welcome Norwegian hosts into our community and make it possible for guests to get even further out of town. Launching our first market outside Denmark was a huge step for us.
Guten tag, Germany!
We launched our site in German back in October 2021, and our excitement for Germany has since been growing like their beautiful forests. Happy to see so many German hosts embrace the idea of sharing their holiday homes with lovely guests from around the world.
We raise €3.8 millions from SEED Capital
This investment put wind in our sails to grow our community of handpicked gems especially in Norway and Germany, where we’ve recently launched. Our dream of becoming the best digital platform for finding and sharing one-of-a-kind holiday homes continue.
