Unique summer house with seaweed roof on Læsø

On Læsø you can find the very characteristic houses with the large, special roof made of seaweed. The summer house 'Knøv' is one of the 18 houses that have been renovated with the help of the AP Møller Foundation. The former farm has now been converted into a summer house and the four-hectare plot can be enjoyed to the full.
The cottage is divided into two apartments that can be rented together or separately. This part of the cottage was originally made for living and over time it has been completely renovated with tiles and underfloor heating throughout. The cozy living rooms and decor have been preserved as much as possible, so the true atmosphere of Læsø shines through. The height of the living rooms is also original, so if you are over 180 cm tall, keep an eye out for the beautiful beams in the ceiling. The highest point in the house is where the Bornholm clock is located - it has always stood here because there is not enough space elsewhere.
One of the apartment's two rooms is called the 'Jesus room' and here the family's children have counted a total of 27 pictures of Jesus from a former resident's mother-in-law. The room with its own entrance is really cozy and you can enjoy walking directly out into the garden. The 'Lion Room' has two single beds and plenty of space for the children.
The entire house was originally built from timber and wreckage from shipwrecks, and the curved beams tell stories from the old days. In the late 1600s, all the forest on the island was used for salt extraction, so the islanders used stranded vessels to build their houses. 'Knøv', as the house is called, was built over several generations. Subjects were added as the family grew larger or if they experienced more prosperity. The last one at Knøv was built in 1918 as a stable and is thatched.
Outside, the nature is stunning and the many hectares of land are full of adventure. The beach is only 900 meters from the cottage, and if you're looking for a grocery store, harbor and eateries, head to Østerby, which is just 2.5 kilometers from the cottage. The bus is free, but you have to walk a little over a kilometer to the intersection in Gl. Østerby to get on.

- Only 900 meters to a lovely, child-friendly beach
My name is Solveig and I am married to Henning. We are both islanders and seaweed people. I have a shop called Storhaven, which is open most of the year. Here I make creams, shampoos and other delicious products from seaweed and natural ingredients under the name 'Læsøfruerne'. My husband makes the seaweed roofs that Læsø is known for. He has started the renovation and preservation of the very unique roofs, which are also considered cultural heritage.
We run Storhaven, where there is also a café with a farm and an adventure place. My employees and I call ourselves Læsøfruerne and we would love to have visitors. Especially during the summer period, the place is busy.
The island is excellent for cycling, and you can rent bikes in Østerby Harbor at Marina park on Smedevej. Here you can also rent an electric car for a half or full day. We definitely think a three-kilometer walk from the cottage along Alleen and Danzigmannvej is a good one. Here you will see eight houses with seaweed roofs, and in general, most of the seaweed houses on Læsø are located in this area.
If you want to eat gourmet food at Læsø's most popular and fun eatery 'Vesterøl', reservations are required, but it's well worth a visit. We also love going to the beach after stormy weather to look for amber, buy chanterelles from the stalls in Gl. Østerby or find them ourselves in the natural areas to the north. A former church in Vesterø has been converted into a spa and wellness bath, where you can get great treatments in the salty water.
In the seaweed house 'Knøv' there are two apartments that can be rented separately or together if you are a large family.

Lovely beds - beautiful grounds with room for everyone - a really cozy house. Not exactly a fully equipped kitchen.
