Historic Farmhouse in the Idyllic Wendland Countryside

The Wendland region in Lower Saxony not only offers a beautiful natural landscape, but is also one of the most interesting cultural regions in Germany. Here you will find green fields and forests as well as many small museum villages and cultural towns, organic farms and small cafes and much more.

The historic farm of Mariann and her family was built in 1799, making it one of the oldest buildings in the area and, as such, a listed monument.

The large courtyard ensemble in traditional Rundlingsdorf design can accommodate up to 14 people in four bedrooms and with a sofa bed or two - and is especially suitable as a vacation destination for families with children. The living room is not only historically reconstructed with the old stencil paintings on the wall, but also particularly cozy due to the tiled stove. In the bay window room there is plenty of space for social gatherings or joint yoga sessions and the kitchen, with the old beams as a room element, offers plenty of space for shared meals.

Especially for families, this place is a great experience. Here you'll find everything you want for an adventure vacation with kids in the countryside: from great equipment in the house (bunk beds, play corners, toys) to the garden, where you'll find a sandbox, a fire pit and plenty of toys to play with outside. Numerous bicycles for adults and children invite you to bike tours and to explore the varied nature of the area on two tires.

Tourism Fee not included

A Tourism Fee is a mandatory fee that you have to pay when visiting certain tourism areas in Germany. The fee is not included in the price because it depends on where you stay, how many nights you stay, how old you are and if you’re bringing your dog. The fee varies between €0 and €4 per adult per night and should be settled with the host upon arrival.

Highlights from Mariann

Host since February 2023

  • In the historic courtyard from 1799 you have the feeling of being transported to another time
  • The tasteful interior is a mixture of elegant and rustic country style
  • The large garden with the old cherry trees and the cozy fireplace

I'm Mariann and I work as a sales manager for a Hamburg brewery. We live in Hamburg with my husband, who comes from the hotel industry, and our three children. The farm in Wendland inspired me as a project from the very beginning and we renovated it with a lot of love and time from 2014-2020 and then accidentally discovered original stencil paintings under old wallpaper in the living room that are over 140 years old - that was a great surprise for me as an art historian. We even won an award from the Lower Saxony State Monuments Office for the careful reconstruction of the room. We love the courtyard and immersing ourselves in another world. Of course, we prefer to be here with the whole family and friends. The children play in the garden and in summer we like to eat together at the big table under the cherry trees.

The location is great and very quiet and the house is quaint, cozy and lovingly restored and furnished. Even in November we were still able to sit in the sun in the beautiful garden. Later, the tiled stove warmed us up. The surrounding area is great for walking.
