We are a married couple aged 37 and 38, with two boys. Owning our own cabin has been our dream for a long time, and by coincidence we had a babysitter the same day there was a viewing of what turned out to be our dream cabin. In Kristiansand, we live in a dense neighborhood, so the opportunity to drive a short distance to a cabin where we can walk right out the door and be in nature was very tempting.
We knew that being able to enjoy perfect skiing conditions, hiking in the forest, fishing, seeing and taking pictures of birds, swimming, picking berries and seeing moose was going to be a perfect fit, but when we walked into the cabin and saw the woodwork and all the details, we both fell in love immediately. We are detail-oriented, and things like lighting, the ability to enjoy music in multiple rooms, remote control of heating to start the cabin trip optimally - are just some of the things we have invested in to enhance the comfort and experience, both ours and our guests'.
Our children, like most children, love iPads, the internet and TV. By removing the TV as the centerpiece of the living room, we get the opportunity to play board games or do things together, such as collecting wood, gathering sticks for the fire, picking berries, just by going out on the slippers. Our 8-year-old son has quickly learned to become a skilled skier, caught his first fish, lit a fire, recognizes birds by their songs and many other things you don't do in the city, which is exactly what gives us the most pleasure from being at our cabin.
