Charming historic property in idyllic Snertingdal
Gjøvik
Holiday home

Up to 8 guests

Welcome to this historic property in the middle of a beautiful Norwegian forest village. Although the village is located at an altitude of plus/minus 500 m above sea level, you are still not far from civilization. The location is easy to find, and it's only a 15-minute drive from the Mjøsbrua bridge. You'll be a stone's throw from Norway's largest lake, and the house is within a relatively short distance of all three cities on Lake Mjøs, Gjøvik, Lillehammer and Hamar.
The house has a warm atmosphere with large rooms. There are 3.20 meter ceilings on both floors. The house was designed by one of Oslo's most prolific architects in the 1890s, Sigurd Gulbransen. The house has large spacious halls on both floors. On the first floor, five bedrooms and bathrooms have access from the large hall with a balustrade/staircase leading down. The kitchen is large and warm, and a pleasant place to be all year round. The house has three living rooms in a row, including a dining room with seating for many. There is also an office/library on the ground floor. Down towards the garden and the neighbor's field is the glass veranda where it is incredibly nice to sit in late summer evenings with the door open to the garden and its muffled soundscape. It is a house that feels intimate and cozy for a few, and also works very well with many guests in the house.
The area offers several attractions such as the 'fairytale bridge' from the 1790s, the local 'Snertingdal ysteri' and well-prepared cross-country skiing trails near the house (about 1 km away). You can also take day trips to the nearby towns of Gjøvik, Lillehammer and Hamar and try downhill skiing at Hafjell, Synnfjellet or Sjusjøen.
Nearby ski resorts: approx. 52 min to Hafjell Alpinsenter, approx. 54 min to Sjusjøen ski center and approx. 55 min to Synnfjellet.

Hello, I am the host of this historic property. One fall day in October 2018, the old chaplain's residence in Snertingdal suddenly came up for sale. I live and work in Oslo, but have strong ties to this village where my family has lived for hundreds of years. I bought this property on a spontaneous impulse in 2018. Over time, many cultural events were held on the property. A world-renowned violinist played a concert in the barn, the living rooms were regularly visited by famous authors and several festivals were held in the large garden. When the corona epidemic hit, major indoor renovation work began. Slowly but surely, the house has been returned to its original style. This has become a never-ending obsession for the homeowner, who now thinks old-fashioned linseed oil paint smells incredibly good. "I love being in this house myself, and I want to share it with as many other people as possible. The dream is to have light in the windows as often as possible in this old building from 1899, once built to house the first chaplain to settle in the beautiful forest village of Snertingdal. Welcome!
