Embraced by a spectacular mountain landscape, at 980moh and with views of Istjenn and Ranten in Eggedal, you will find this new Ålhytta. The cabin has an award-winning and timeless Norwegian design, with inspiration from Japanese architecture, creating a unique atmosphere.

The design choices inside the cabin are simple, with carefully considered solutions and a minimalist design that retains its characteristic charm. Inside the cabin, you may notice that all rooms have built-in furniture, so that every space feels like a vantage point or "hideaway". To take up as little space as possible in the terrain, the cabin is built as a natural part of the surrounding landscape. At the same time, you get the feeling of being close to nature.

The open space between the kitchen, dining table and living room provides an airy atmosphere, with beautiful light coming in from the large windows. The beautiful wooden materials used in the ceiling construction inside give a very spacious feeling. The cabin has many hiding places, such as the loft in the middle, the day bed or the two double bunk beds on either side of the cabin. There, both adults and children can retreat with a book or a few toys, and completely relax either alone or in each other's company.

The surrounding area offers plenty of activities and nature experiences for the whole family. First and foremost, the hiking area around the cabin, with endless opportunities for both short and long excursions, where you can enjoy a packed lunch or grill some sausages in a fantastic landscape. You can get Norway's best waffles if you visit the tourist cabin at Høgevarde or the family-run café at Fiskeløysingen, and after a long day out in nature you can let the heat embrace you in the sauna. It's also not far to drive to the ski resort at Norefjell in winter, or the popular Bjørneparken in Flå.

Ski in/ski out: Cross-country ski trails right outside the cabin.

Ski resorts nearby: approx. 6 min to Tempelseter Ski Center.

Highlights from Brita

Host since June 2023

  • Enjoy the beautiful nature experiences in the surrounding area, such as the summit hike to Ranten, a refreshing swim in one of the many mountain lakes nearby or the alpine slopes at Norefjell
  • Let the kids retreat to one of the many hiding corners with toys or a good book
  • Enjoy the beautiful Norwegian design inspired by Japanese culture, with a focus on wood materials

We are Einar and Brita, and we own this beautiful cabin. We have four girls between the ages of 9 and 16, and the cabin is a place we appreciate being able to spend time together. The best thing about the cabin is feeling so close to nature and the mountains, while Ålhytta's award-winning design gives a very cozy and safe feeling all year round. Whether you're sitting at the large kitchen table, in the corner of the sofa or lying with a book in the day bed, you have a huge and beautiful view of Istjenn, Ranten and Høgevarde. The little girls love to play on the loft under the ridge; from here they can also spy on the adults in the living room.

From the cabin you can swim and fish in refreshing mountain lakes in the summer, gather mullet and berries in the fall, and take long skiing trips in the winter. If the weather gets too hard and cold, you can try the sauna and snow bathing. Peiskos and board games are also good options - we have deliberately chosen not to have TV or Wi-Fi in the cabin, even though it was completed in 2022. The idea here is to enjoy nature and each other's company, regardless of the season and weather. There is a road all the way to the cabin in both summer and winter, and an electric car charger on the wall.

The area around the cabin offers many great walks and skiing trips, both long and short. Since you are already 1000 meters above sea level, you are already in great hiking terrain. Our girls' favorite hike goes to the tourist cabin at Høgevarde (1459 m above sea level), where they serve freshly baked waffles. It takes 2-3 hours up, and half as long to get home if we don't stop to pick blueberries. On days with good weather, Ranten 1419 m above sea level is a good alternative - you can often see reindeer here! Einar likes to go for a run to Gråfjell 1466 meters above sea level, a round trip of 14 km. There are many more hikes too - just ask us for advice and tips! Morning swim in the summer and snow bathing in the winter (preferably with a sauna) is also something we really recommend!

To say it up front: it was even more beautiful than expected and hoped for. The house is fantastically and thoughtfully furnished - with lovely individual details. I was particularly taken with the ceramics. But the surroundings are also beautiful. When we arrived in the snowstorm, we didn't realize how beautiful it was up there in the fjell, but then when the sun came out... Even -35 degrees wasn't a problem, but an experience when you can go into such a great house to warm up. The sauna was of course the cherry on the cake. The second cherry was the landlords themselves and the friendly communication with them. Thank you for this wonderful time in your house! P.S.: The jam was delicious and is unfortunately already empty. So we'll have to come back soon ;)
