Making the shift

When Michael first started as a host, he managed the first bookings by manually approving - a process he found very time-consuming. Keen to find a simpler and more flexible way to handle bookings, without sacrificing the personal touch, he decided to try automatic approval — a feature that allows guests to confirm their stay instantly, without having to wait for host confirmation. While it felt like a big step at the time, the results have been quietly transformative.

“When I first considered enabling automatic approval, I’ll admit I had my doubts. The idea of letting guests book without my manual approval felt like letting go of something important — especially because our house on Lolland is a personal retreat that we care for deeply. I was concerned I’d lose control over who stayed there, and I didn’t want to compromise the calm, considered experience we try to offer our guests.

But I also realised that the manual process was taking up a lot of time and mental energy, so I decided to give automatic approval a try — and I’m glad I did. The first time a booking came through automatically, it actually felt great. It confirmed that the system worked and that guests appreciated the fast and simple process. When booking, potential guests still send a message, so you know who will be staying in your holiday home, giving you a reassuring sense of security as a host.

Since making the switch, I’ve noticed a real difference. I still see myself as an attentive and involved host, but I now have more space to focus on the parts of hosting that matter most to me — like preparing the house and making sure everything is just right for the next stay.

I’ve also seen a 83% increase in bookings, which I believe is partly because guests can now book immediately without needing to wait for my response. And even though I was initially worried about losing oversight, I’ve found that I still have all the tools I need — I can set filters, leave a message for guests before booking, and trust that those who book now are just as thoughtful as those who booked before.

For hosts who are hesitant, I’d say: try it out. It might feel like a leap, but in my experience, the benefits - the time saved, the freedom it brings, and the smoother experience for guests - easily outweigh the concerns.”

For Michael, automatic approval has created a more flexible rhythm — one that frees up time without disrupting the kind of hosting he values. His holiday home is still his own, thoughtfully curated and carefully prepared, but now it’s easier for the right guests to discover it. “It’s a small change,” he says, “but one that makes a big difference.”
