Our Landfolk hosts recommend: The best beaches in Djursland

The summer holiday is a time to slow down, feel the salt water on your skin, get sand under your toes and enjoy the warm summer winds on your walks in the gorgeous landscape. We have curated a list of recommendations from our lovely hosts so that you can experience the best beaches, ice cream spots and views, and allow yourself to be enchanted by the essence of Danish summer along the sea.

Enjoy the beach at Boeslum

Recommended by Maibritt and Jens

Boeslum Strand is a local favorite with its blooming beach meadows, clear water, blue flag, and ice cream kiosk for a refreshing treat on hot summer days. From the beach, you have a view of Hjelm Island, and a stone's throw away is the nearly 50-meter-high lookout point Jernhatten with its unique troll trees. Maibritt and Jens recommend following the beach south to find beautiful stones or heading north to the shallow beach.

Take a walk along the beach and heath on Øerstien

Recommended by Signe and Ronni

In the architect-designed holiday enclave Øer Maritime Ferieby with its artificial islands, harbor basins, and canals, you're never far from the next swim. Signe, Ronni, and their family often enjoy catching crabs and shrimp at "Børnenes Krabbebro" and love following the scenic Øerstien through marshland, heath with purple heather, birch forests, and, of course, the beach. About halfway along the route, there is a bonfire site where you can take a break and make pancakes, marshmallows, or anything else your heart might desire.

Swim in the secret forest lake

Recommended by Maria and Kent

If you're looking for a slightly different swim, take a short trip through the most beautiful fairy-tale forest from Maria and Kent's summer house, where a small, somewhat secret forest lake with clear water awaits you. Maria and Kent love swimming in undisturbed natural and tranquil surroundings.

Enjoy an ice cream at Sletterhage lighthouse

Recommended by Line and Morten

When Line and Morten aren't spending days at the beach or searching for amber with their amber lamps, they often head to Sletterhage Fyr at the southern tip of Helgenæs, where you can get an ice cream from Hans, who is also the lighthouse keeper. Settle down on the beach with a view of the water, the magnificent nature, and the small white-painted lighthouse with colored windows. If you find pebbles on the beach, you can exchange them for a lollipop at Hans' ice cream shop.

Catch crabs and spend the day at Skødshoved Strand

Recommended by Sarah Maria

Sarah Maria and her family often take the short walk to the family-friendly Skødshoved Strand, providing the perfect setting for relaxing beach days with its crystal-clear water, fine sand, and the small ice cream shop. Here, you can collect shells and pebbles, play games, and take a dip in the blue waves. Not far from the beach is the marina, where you can participate in crab fishing on the pier and enjoy a lovely lunch at Skødshoved Badehotel.

Surf at Strands' beach

Recommended by Benedikte and Martin

Mols Peninsula's perhaps best beach can be found at Strands' sandy beach at Begtrupvigen. For Benedikte, Martin, and the children, a trip to their holiday home always includes a couple of trips to the beach every day, where you can go for a swim, try kite and windsurfing, or watch paragliders glide over the water from the cliffs. When you return home, you can take a refreshing shower in the outdoor shower or warm up in Benedikte and Martin's wood-fired sauna.

Have a waffle at Denmark's (potentially) best ice cream shop

Recommended by Anette

Anette's holiday home is located only 100 meters from the water, where the family enjoys kayaking, SUP boarding, swimming, and fishing. If you're lucky enough to catch something, you can prepare it at the outdoor kitchen on the terrace. Don't go home without treating yourself to a stroll along Klitvej, where Fjellerup Vaffelbageri awaits you. Enjoy a warm, crispy ice cream cone with a view of the water at the waffle bakery, which has been voted Denmark's best.

Enjoy morning and evening swims at Grenå Strand

Recommended by Annelene and Søren

It's a daily must for Annelene and Søren to grab their towels and take the short walk to the beach for a morning and evening dip. Grenå Strand is one of the best and most child-friendly on the east coast, with its dunes, fine sand, and shallow water. Feel the sand between your toes, enjoy a fresh morning swim, or take an evening dip as the sun sets over the ocean. "We love spending time at the beach. It's a daily must to throw the towel over the shoulder, take the short walk down, and take a morning and evening dip."

Test your diving skills at Fuglsø Strand

Recommended by Lisbeth and Niels

Not far from Lisbeth and Niels' summer house lies Fuglsø Strand, waiting for you with a bathing bridge, a beautiful view of Ebeltoft, and Denmark's first underwater activity course. Hold your breath through the four-meter-long tube on the seabed or play tic-tac-toe at a depth of four meters. If you get hungry after your beach trip, Lisbeth and Niels recommend having a delicious lunch under the trees in Café Fuglsø's garden.

Go hiking in the beautiful hills of Mols Bjerge, discover cultural gems in the idyllic Ebeltoft, and enjoy fresh fish and produce from the charming farm shops and eateries in the surrounding area. Find inspiration for your next summer trip with our handpicked holiday homes in Mols Bjerge National Park.
