Anders and Charlotte's favourite place to visit near Nykøbing Sjælland is Nygårdens Gårdbutik og Frugtplantage. The farm is brimming with flavourful organic products from the local area and invites you to everything from twist bread baking to drawing workshops. Here you can fill your basket with crafts and specialty goods in the farm shop, and there are always berries and fruits to feast on and sweet animals to greet in the Cherry Garden.

Watch the sunset at Gudmindrup Beach

Gudmindrup Beach is widely known as one of Denmark's very best bathing beaches. Here, the sand is white and free of seaweed, and the water is shallow far out. Settle down in the dunes and laze away warm summer days in the sun. Sidse recommends ending the beach day at Haveje Burger, which is a great spot to enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine, a good burger, and perhaps a final evening swim.

Climb the mountain and build stone art at Klint

Rugged and unique nature awaits you at the Klint peninsula, where massive 35-meter-high cliffs rise above the sea. The fit can climb Klintebjerg and follow the narrow ridge along the cliffs, but you can also take the trip on the beach on foot. At Klint Beach a little further along the coast, you will find the special stone pillar park, which the German artist Udo Leis started in 2010. Since then, locals and holiday home guests have continued the tradition, and you also have the opportunity to leave your own mark on the artwork.

Find flea market treasures in Lumsås

Rikke and Andreas enjoy daily visits to the local flea market Stig og Ko, which has filled 400 square meters in Lumsås with beautiful furniture for home decor, retro items, trinkets, and quirky curiosities. While you're in Lumsås, Rikke and Andreas recommend stopping by the butter-yellow, French-inspired Ishuset, which tempts with Danish quality ice cream and a good cup of coffee.

See art in the former mental hospital

If you're in need of a cultural saltwater injection, follow the coast from Nykøbing Sjælland to Anneberg Kulturpark. The area right by Isefjord once housed a mental hospital, but today it's a medley of art, culture, and gastronomy. Among other things, see contemporary art in the Artist Wing and visit Hempel Glasmuseum, which houses the Nordic region's largest private collection of antique, rare glass collected on sea voyages. You can also enjoy a Michelin meal at MOTA, created from ingredients from the fertile hinterland by the fjord.

Go seaweed foraging in the sea

Seaweed is becoming an increasingly popular food and grows in abundance in Danish waters. At Anneberg, you'll find Dansk Tang, which sells seaweed of 20 different varieties fresh from the sea. If you're up for it, you can also put on waders and join a seaweed safari. The experience costs 330 for adults and 250 for children and guides you to seaweed harvesting on a vegan safari – remember plastic bags or containers. Get morning bread at micro-bakery Sølt

Even though Anna grew up in Odsherred and knows the area inside out, she and her husband still find new cool initiatives to fall in love with when they enjoy time together in their holiday home. For example, the micro-bakery Sølt, which every weekend fills its counter with, among other things, long-fermented Öland bread, rye bread, cookies, and cinnamon rolls. Sølt is a contraction of 'sweet' and 'salty,' and you'll find the small bakery with the lovely name at the charming address 'Under himlen 8'.

Enjoy the cozy town life in Nykøbing Sjælland

Nykøbing Sjælland is one of the country's oldest market towns and is brimming with life and atmosphere. If you miss city life, head to the pedestrian street and wander around the cozy eateries and shops. Visit, among others, Denmark's oldest toy shop and Lokalkompagniet, where you can get your hands on delicious local specialties like juice from Sidinge Fruit Plantation or enjoy a good lunch in the courtyard. Also, stop by the Marina with its charming red houses in a row, and take a rest on the 'Tænkebænken' (Thinking Bench) engraved with Peter A.G.'s song 'Når jeg bliver gammel' (When I get old).

Look for rare birds

Put on your waterproof hiking boots and bring your binoculars in your bag, and take a trip to Hov Vig. In the area on the Nakke peninsula, one of Denmark's most unique bird and wildlife sanctuaries is nestled. Among the 267 bird species registered in the area, you can see ducks, swans, and birds of prey of all kinds. Children and the young at heart will love keeping an eye out from the bird hide, and Hovvigvej and Nakke Skov are full of fruits, herbs, and edible flowers that you can forage. Come home with sloe and bog myrtle for homemade schnapps or wild roses for rosehip jam.

Crab catching at Rørvig Harbour

If you continue across the Nakke peninsula, you will reach Rørvig's cozy harbour. Our local Landfolk hosts often come here to enjoy the harbour environment, eat ice cream, or take a boat trip with a fishing cutter from the harbour. But most popular is crab catching at the harbour, which is a firm tradition for Kristian and his family. After catching crabs, they also enjoy a plate of fish 'n' chips with a view over Isefjord.
