Visit Heatherhill's heather-clad hills

The light purple heather hills of Heatherhill offer a very special nature experience, and Ronnie and his family often come here when they're at their cottage. Here you can take a brisk walk through the heather-clad hills and enjoy the sea view from the steep cliffs. Don't be surprised if you greet a flock of sheep on your way, and if you're lucky, you might even see porpoises frolicking in the sea. After their walk, Ronnie and his family often stop by the Italian ice cream parlor Il Terrazzo for a well-deserved ice cream.

Kite flying or kitesurfing for the daring

Rågeleje Beach and Heatherhill Beach are popular spots for kitesurfers and paragliders. Rågeleje Beach lies almost unprotected facing the Kattegat, creating good conditions for active days on the water. For the less daring, Heatherhill is a great place to watch paragliders soar over the water before landing on the beach – or to fly kites themselves in the hills on autumn days.

Morning swim by candy-striped bathhouses

Cottage trips mean refreshing morning swims and warm summer days by the water's edge. When Laura and Jacob are at their cottage in Rågeleje, they most enjoy being close to the beach – either at Heatherhill, Strandbjerggård, or Rågeleje Beach, where the candy-striped bathhouses are strung like pearls on a string. But Laura and Jacob's favorite beach is the local Vejby Beach, just a stone's throw from the cottage. Here you can fish with either a rod or a harpoon, and the beach is child-friendly with its stone dikes that create small lagoons where children can splash around.

Enjoy local specialties from farm shops

When Didde and Nicki are at their cottage, they often visit the area's many flea markets and farm shops offering local specialties. For example, you can visit the farm gate sales at Grønt fra Kolsbæk, which is open from late March and sells freshly spun honey, fresh Danish strawberries, and over 60 different types of vegetables. Continue for 10 minutes by car and you'll reach the craft brewery Det Våde Får, which offers beer brewed with barley from their own fields, herbs gathered locally, and elderflower picked from their own hedge. Det Våde Får also occasionally hosts beer tastings.

Follow the North Coast Cycle Route to the summer towns

When Hanne and Thomas feel like experiencing the holiday atmosphere and town life along the North Coast, they often take a slightly longer bike ride to Tisvildeleje, Liseleje, Gilleleje, or Hornbæk. A marked cycle route runs between the cozy seaside towns and old fishing villages. Here you'll find restaurants and cafes, and specialty shops to explore. For example, pick up freshly fried fish cakes or smoked and fresh fish at Den Friske Fisk near Tisvildeleje, or enjoy an ice cream at the charming fishing harbor in Gilleleje.

Pick-your-own days at Gundekildegaard

Bring your own bowls or containers and spend the day together in the fields picking strawberries. Trine and her family enjoy visiting Gundekildegaard during peak season when the berries are sweetest and the farm is open for pick-your-own. If you need a refreshment after your efforts, you can visit the Strawberry Café, which offers smoothies, berry cakes, and ice cream made in their own jam factory. Back at the cottage, you can try making the farm's recipe for homemade strawberry cake.

Get up close with the glassblowing craft

In an old cottage by the water's edge in Rågeleje lies the glassblowing studio and workshop Glass Blow, where you can get a special insight into the craft of glassblowing – and perhaps take a unique glass home. The glassblowing studio was created by Jason Blak Bengtsson, who has worked with glass for over 30 years and, among other things, made a total of 4000 wine glasses for the world-renowned restaurant Noma. He draws inspiration for the glass's color nuances and organic shapes from the sea.

Go hiking in the wilderness

Where Strandvejen takes a bend, lies the protected Rågegården. This natural area was formerly a private park and is known among locals as Glads Have (Glad's Garden). Today, the park is overgrown, but you can still discern the outlines of a park landscape with gravel paths, small bridges over streams, and large rhododendron bushes. There are good climbing trees here, and the garden is especially beautiful when the rhododendrons are in pink bloom.

When Ann-Sofie and Simon want to enjoy a good dinner, they often visit Rabarbergården near Tisvildeleje. The Køster family's almost self-sufficient farm is known for its sustainable vision, good ingredients, and attention to detail. Here you can be tempted by homemade sourdough bread from the Farm Bakery, live out your garden dreams in the plant nursery, or buy local specialties in the Farm Shop. In the restaurant and orangery, you can enjoy a meal composed of everything harvested, picked, preserved, and baked by their own efforts on the farm.

Mountain biking at Tisvilde Hegn

If you're in Tisvildeleje anyway, you shouldn't miss Tisvilde Hegn. This impressive natural area is part of Nationalpark Kongernes Sjælland and abounds with great experiences for the whole family.
