Andrea Theodora's family summer holiday in North Zealand: "The first thing we look for is where to stay and the good food experience"
Influencer Andrea Theodora Smidt often returns to North Zealand when she and her family need a break from Copenhagen. We asked her about her summer holidays in North Zealand and where they enjoy spending their summer days when they're vacationing in a summer house.

What does getting out of the city and closer to nature once in a while mean to you?
Without a doubt, nature is where I recharge. For me, living in a big city requires at least one monthly outing. On with the fluffy socks and ready to head out to fresh air and tranquility. I love feeling the grass between my toes and swimming in the sea, no matter the season. My zodiac sign says I love water, so maybe that's the meaning behind the madness.
The great thing for us about holidaying in North Zealand is that the nature is beautiful, the sea is clean, and there are also great opportunities for experiences. The drive from Copenhagen is also very manageable.
You often holiday in North Zealand. What is it that keeps you coming back?
Benjamin's family has a summer house up north which we are lucky enough to enjoy, and my dad lives in Liseleje, where we also love to visit. It's so beautiful and you always return home with good energy.
The great thing about holidaying in North Zealand is that the nature is beautiful, the sea is clean and there are also great opportunities for experiences. The drive from Copenhagen is also very manageable. Although we also love Thy and the rugged nature in the national park, with a 1-year-old, we prefer to spend at least one week here.
It's so beautiful and you always return home with good energy.
We often travel for work and thrive in a fast-paced lifestyle, so a summer house trip with time to do nothing and recharge is ideal for us. We think it's great to disconnect from everyday life in a summer house.
The great thing about holidaying close to home is that family and friends can easily visit. On Saturday, Benjamin's brother dropped by, and on the drive home on Monday, we visited some friends for lunch at their summer house nearby. It's great to be able to share the joy with loved ones.

What are 5 places in the area you think others should take the time to experience?
- Heatherhill - Here, you’ll find raw nature and endless beauty as far as the eye can see. It's also said to be a great sledging hill in winter.

- Rabarbergaarden (The Rhubarb Farm) - Here, you’ll find cute animals, a great atmosphere and locally sourced food.
- Rokkedyssegaard (Rokkedysse Farm) - They have the best berries you can get. If you come here during summer time, you can pick your own strawberries here.
- Flea markets - We love going to flea markets and finding hidden treasures. Here, it is Loppestalden.
- Vejby Beach - Watching the sunset is always a great idea, especially from this edge of the water.
Other things you think you should do or experience on holiday in North Zealand?
The Rudolph Tegner Museum. Here, you can explore the sculptor's beautiful works in large dimensions. The room with 11 metre high ceilings is worth a visit in itself.
And then Troldeskoven (The Troll Forest), with Denmark's oldest pine tree and lots of good walks to enjoy.
What do you value most when you’re looking for an holiday location?
We have a long list of destinations in the world we dream of travelling to. When deciding on one of them, we consider both aesthetics and location - preferably close to the sea, no matter where in the world we're travelling.

What do you look for when searching for a holiday home to stay in with your family?
When we go on holiday, the first thing we look for is where to stay and a great food experience. It's important for us to have a good base where we feel safe and where there's room to enjoy ourselves together. So it's the house that determines the exact destination.
What was your experience with the Landfolk holiday home you spent your holiday in?
The holiday home in Vejby exceeded our expectations. The pictures on the website were appealing, but it was even better to experience it in real life. When we arrived, we could hear the sea from the garden, so we slept with the windows open and had the nicest start to a wonderful holiday.
The interior design was well thought out and the summer house was beautiful, from the ceilings to the garden gate.
We chose this particular summer house because the kitchen seemed to create a great setting for us as a family. We love to cook, and a space like this makes cooking a great shared activity. We thoroughly enjoyed savouring the summer produce while our daughter played on the floor around us.
The interior design was well thought out and the summer house was beautiful, from the ceilings to the garden gate. It was great that it was equipped with toys and whatever else you need when you have a child with you. Not having to pack the car to the brim with a high chair and other equipment felt like getting a hug - exactly what you need as a small new family. Thanks to Jens, Marie, Jakob and Laura for making us feel as welcome as we did.

Describe a day on your holiday, from waking up to going to bed
Merle woke up at 6am as usual, and lucky me, Benjamin served coffee on the bed. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast and explored the house and garden. Merle was excited about the sandbox and her new favourite toys. Then we took each other by the arm and headed off to Heatherhill, one of our absolute favourite areas in Denmark. Heatherhill surprises us again and again with its beautiful nature and landscape. Merle wanted to pet a sheep, but this time the sheep were faster than her. We went down to the beach and played with rocks until it was time for Merle to take her nap in the shade of the trees in the summer house garden.
Then we took each other by the arm and headed off to Heatherhill, one of our absolute favourite areas in Denmark.
The next stop was lunch at Rabarbergaarden, but on the way there our car had a flat rear tyre, which - luckily, after all - meant we had to spend a couple of hours in the summer house, which was probably exactly what we needed. We had a good time, played ball in the garden and looked each other deep in the eyes for a little. When the car was rolling again, we drove to Rabarbergaarden and had an ice cream in the sun. Merle enjoyed looking at animals and beautiful gardens with fresh vegetables.
When we got home, we fired up the barbecue, had a lovely dinner together as a family on the terrace and ended a lovely summer day with a sunset over Vejby Strand.
