On the rolling hills and low meadows of Helgenæs, you can enjoy the views and tranquillity to the fullest. Here you can lie in bed, watch the sun rise on the horizon, followed by a cup of coffee and a freshly baked bun on the terrace. If you're lucky, you might even spot porpoises or seals frolicking in Ebeltoft Vig.
Once you've had your fill, you can jump into your flip-flops, throw a towel over your shoulder and head down to the east coast of Helgenæs, where the family has a jetty together with other cottage owners. Should the Danish summer bring a little wind or rain, you can also take a walk in the fresh forest, which with Ellemandsbjerget is the highest point on Helgenæs. Here you can experience a phenomenal 270-degree view and spot Ebeltoft, Samsø, Odder and Aarhus.
When you head back to the cabin, you can enjoy lunch on the east-facing terrace, both of which overlook the water and garden. Should the weather not be on your side, you can bury yourself in a good book in the armchair in front of the wood-burning stove, overlooking the south-facing garden with wildflowers. When the afternoon hours roll around, the living room also has a built-in bed for a good scratching post. The south-facing terrace is surrounded by ivy and flower pots and has a wall to the west to shield it from the wind. The west-facing terrace has a barbecue, garden tables and chairs, with sprawling roses and vines. To the north is the family 'beer hole', which is an outdoor fridge you can use to keep refreshments and vegetables cool. In general, the grounds are surrounded by rosehip bushes, wildflower beds and large trees that allow you to take a nap in the hammock.
After half an hour's walk, you'll arrive at the Esby boating lake with a beach and bridge, where the family has a kayak for free use. If you're more into land-based activities, you can follow the coast around the southern tip at Lushage, which is particularly suitable for experienced kayakers. You can also drive over to the other side of Helgenæs to Kongsgårde, which has a lovely wide sandy beach and good shopping opportunities.

Helgenæs' beautiful nature, with rich wildlife and wide views
John and I are both around 60 years old, and together we have three children aged 23-33, who have all left home. On a daily basis, we live in Silkeborg, while our children have spread out to Denmark's big cities. We bought the summer house in 2019, and since then it has become a place where some of us either go alone for a few days, or we can meet out there with some of the children, and for various holidays we all meet out there together. We generally love to be out there on weekends and vacations, where friends also often come by and maybe stay for a few days. We love our sanctuary and want like-minded people to benefit from it too.

Beautiful area, incredibly peaceful and plenty of privacy, nice views. A lot to do if the weather is nice (bikes, kanoe, walking areas, beaches nearby, hammock(s) in the garden, plenty of outdoor seating areas) and mega cosy inside if the weather isn't great. Clean, homely, excellent attention to detail (wildflowers picked from the garden as decoration inside), and a chilled bottle of Prosecco in the fridge for our honeymoon!
