On the top of Helgenæs’ hilly landscape
Helgenæs
Holiday home
52 m²
Up to 5 guests
2 bedrooms
By rolling hills and low meadows on Helgenæs, you can enjoy the view and tranquillity to the fullest. Here you can lie in bed, watch the sun rise on the horizon, followed by a cup of coffee and a freshly baked bun on the terrace. If you're lucky, you might even spot porpoises or seals frolicking in Ebeltoft Vig.
Once you've recovered, you can jump into your flip-flops, throw a towel over your shoulder, and dawdle down to the east coast of Helgenæs, where the family, along with other holiday home owners, has a bathing jetty. Should the Danish summer bring a little wind or rain, you can also take a walk in the fresh forest, which with Ellemandsbjerget is the highest point on Helgenæs. Here you can experience a phenomenal 270-degree view and spot Ebeltoft, Samsø, Odder and Aarhus.
As you head back to the cabin, enjoy lunch on the east-facing terrace, both of which overlook the water and garden. Should the weather not be with you, you can bury yourself in a good book in the armchair in front of the wood-burning stove, overlooking the south-facing garden with wildflowers. When the afternoon hours draw in, the living room also has a built-in bed for a good scraping. The south-facing terrace is surrounded by ivy and flower pots, and has a wall to the west to keep out the wind. The west-facing terrace has a barbecue, garden tables and chairs, with sprawling roses and vines. To the north is the family 'beer hole', an outdoor fridge you can use to keep refreshments and vegetables cool. In general, the grounds are surrounded by rosehip bushes, wildflower beds and large trees that allow you to take a nap in the hammock.
After a half-hour walk, you'll arrive at Esby bådelaug with a beach and bridge, where the family has a kayak for free use. If you're more into land-based activities, you can follow the coast around the southern tip at Lushage, which is especially suitable for seasoned trotters. You can also drive over to the other side of Helgenæs to Kongsgårde, which has a lovely, wide sandy beach and good shopping opportunities.

Highlights from Bente & John
Host since July 2022
- The wooden terrace to the east with sea views, the sheltered Italian terrace to the south, and the barbecue terrace to the west with vines
- Wake up to the sound of birdsong and stunning views of Ebeltoft Vig
- Helgenæs' beautiful nature, with rich wildlife and expansive views
John and I are both around 60 years old and have three children aged 23-33, all of whom have left home. We live in Silkeborg, Denmark, while our children have spread out to Denmark's big cities. We bought the summer house in 2019, and since then it has become a place where some of us either go alone for a few days, or we can meet out there with some of the children, and for various holidays we all meet out there together. We generally love being out there on weekends and vacations, with friends often dropping by and maybe staying for a few days. We love our sanctuary and want like-minded people to benefit from it too.
