We are a lively family of six with four children aged 9-15. After spending several summers in Jotunheimen, where we experienced how fantastic it was for both young and old to master summit hikes, discover nature together, try our luck at fishing and cycling in the mountains, we chose to build our cabin here - in Sjodalen Fjellgrend.
When we were building the cabin, it was important for us to build with minimal encroachment on nature, and the cabin is built with great close-up views and the mountain peaks of Griningsdalen in the distance, as well as large windows that let nature in completely - so that the nature experiences do not stop at the cabin door. Emphasis was placed on creating a place where we could spend time together as a family and retreat at the same time. That's why there's plenty of space and separate bedrooms for everyone.
The area around the cabin offers lots of great experiences, with fishing trips to Ingulsjøen being the kids' clear favorite. Here you can see the fish from the shore and enjoy the view of the Nautgardsmassivet massif on the way to the cabin. There are lots of great hikes in the area, where Nautgardstinden, Knutshø, Glittertind, Bygdin and Besstrondrundhøe with panoramic views are just a few of the family's favorites. The youngsters are happy to spend a day on the alpine slopes at Lemonsjøen and there are endless opportunities for cross-country skiing, where you can experience the mountains from both groomed trails and spectacular mountain peaks.
