Historic country house in the middle of a private park

The floodplain landscape of the Middle Elbe combines a nature reserve with cultural heritage like no other region in Germany. The Middle Elbe is a UNESCO biosphere reserve and the flat floodplain landscape provides a valuable habitat for many animal species that were once threatened with extinction. There is plenty to discover here for anyone who enjoys being surrounded by unspoiled nature. On the other hand, the surrounding area offers many destinations for culture enthusiasts, such as the Bauhaus in Dessau and the cathedral city of Magdeburg.
The country house built around 1735 by Prince Christian August von Anhalt-Zerbst, the father of Catherine the Great, is located in this unique area. It is one of the most important architectural monuments in the Anhalt cultural region. Bennet, who often visits the house with his family, has carefully and lovingly renovated it in recent years - and is still at it! Here, the rustic, charming country house has been carefully given the benefits of modern living without losing its historic country house vibe.
There may be a creaky floorboard here and there and some crumbling plaster there, but that is exactly what gives this elegant house its character.
The house itself is furnished in a French-Italian country house style and is a dream come true for anyone who would like to be transported back in time. You'll heat your home with wood-burning stoves, cook together in a (fully equipped) kitchen and eat together in the sun in the garden. Everything has been thought of, from books to board games, and there is plenty to do, especially for the youngest guests. As Bennet and his own family are often at the country house, there is everything a little (and big) heart could desire: outdoor toys, children's bikes, high chairs, bobby cars, children's books..
You can spend a few quiet days in the countryside in the middle of your own private park, which is over 1 hectare in size and in which 300-year-old copper beeches stand next to walnut, apple and cherry trees.
From the park, you can reach the small stream that borders the property and where you can easily jump into the water from the private bathing area.

Highlights from Bennet
Host since February 2023
- The house is located in a large park with old trees, which you have all to yourself
- You can swim in the stream that borders the property at the private bathing area
- Beautiful furnishings in French-Italian country house style with rustic charm
Hi, I'm Bennet, an art historian, father of three and amateur chef.
We have carefully renovated the historic, listed manor house Gut Walternienburg, whereby we have attached great importance to preserving as much of the baroque building fabric as possible (this is also required by the monument protection authority) because the house is also a listed building in the interior due to its historical significance. This is exactly what we want: the house should bring an elegant but simple country life to life. We not only love the rustic house, but also the surroundings. The proximity to the water, on the one hand the Nuthe stream, which borders our 1-hectare park and where we have a private bathing area, but also the Middle Elbe with its extensive floodplains is very close by. There are also many UNESCO World Heritage sites worth exploring right on the doorstep - for example the Bauhaus Dessau, the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom, Quedlinburg and Lutherstadt Wittenberg. The surrounding area is perfect for cycling tours, the Elbe cycle path is right next to the house. You can also go horse riding, hiking, swimming, celebrate together, cook, discover..
