Art throughout the summer in Djursland

Throughout the summer, art enthusiasts can find plenty of art experiences in Djursland. Here's our guide to where to look.

Glass art in Ebeltoft

Recommended by Jesper & Grith.

Ebeltoft is known for being an old market town and, not least, an incredibly popular summer holiday destination. The town is packed with culture and history, and Glasmuseet Ebeltoft is no exception for visitors. You are invited into a world where you encounter large glass sculptures and works in incredible colors, from modern to international.

The permanent installation Det Kosmiske Rum (The Cosmic Room) was created by Faroese artist Tróndur Patursson, where you step into a space surrounded by large glass panels. As the name suggests, you will feel like you are in a cosmic room filled with colors and incredible light.

You can also experience The Study, an exhibition concept where artists are allowed to display their experimental works and the process involved in creating glass art. Among the temporary exhibitions, you can experience Steffen Dam's Come Fly With Me, which plays with history, inventions, and science.

When you need a break after visiting the glass museum, Ebeltoft is full of cozy cafes and restaurants where you can relax.

Learn about candle making and make your own candles

In Balle, Djursland, there is a small candle workshop called Lyspunkt. Here you can learn how to cast candles, buy candles to take home as a souvenir from your trip, or make them yourself. It's a perfect activity for gray summer days when it might be raining and cloudy. If you have children with you on your summer holiday, it's also a great activity to take them to. They will surely love being able to take their very own candle home from Djursland.

Handicrafts and unique items at Pottehuset

Pottehuset has been located in the forest in northern Djursland for over 40 years. Aase and Troels Kvorning are the ceramic couple behind Pottehuset, who export their works to Germany and Scandinavia.

There is an open house during the summer months, where you can see and buy plates, cups, and jugs – all made according to old traditions of ceramic craftsmanship.

Visit Ebeltoft's creative hub

Recommended by Louise & Rasmus.

Maltfabrikken is a cultural and creative hub in Ebeltoft, where art, food, and community are paramount. Maltfabrikken dates back to 1861, when the factory was owned by merchant Søren Buchtrup Lundberg. Malt was produced here until 1998, and today the place is run by passionate individuals who strive to create a local gathering point for the citizens of Ebeltoft and visitors.

At Maltfabrikken, you can, among other things, attend various workshops where you can become skilled at printing with blocks and plants, make sculptures in wax, and get a guided tour of the factory. When you need a break, there's delicious street food, cold drinks, and a great atmosphere. Maltfabrikken is a place where you can bring the whole extended family, children, or a group of friends.

If you want to explore more of Ebeltoft, we recommend taking a longer stay here to soak it all in. Here you can explore the town's history, small ceramic shops, and not least, relax in a summer house with those you love.

Explore art with a local ceramist

Malene Møller-Hansen is a ceramist in Rønde and has been since 1975. She creates colorful and whimsical art in the form of cups, jugs, plates, bowls, and much more. You can see and buy her works in her studio, which you can take home as a summer holiday souvenir. This way, you'll be reminded of your great trip to Djursland every time you drink from your coffee cup.

Weaving in Knebel

Annette Bredstrup works with tapestry weaving, acrylic paintings, and collages. She finds her inspiration from folk art in other countries, weaving from 1970s Copenhagen, and the beautiful nature of Djursland.

Annette's weavings consist of fantastic, abstract shapes and colors that together form a motif. You might be lucky enough to see her works at various exhibitions in the country, or when she holds an open studio in her home on Mols.
