A quest for inspiration: Follow Linnéa Andersson on her creative journey

When Swedish artist Linnéa Andersson swapped her Gothenburg studio for a weekend at Hattstugan — an architect-designed holiday home tucked away in the wilds of Bohuslän — she embarked on a creative journey. Surrounded by mossy rocks and ancient birches, Linnéa discovered just how profoundly a change of place can ignite a shift in perspective. Embraced by nature’s purity and a slower rhythm, she allowed herself to retreat, reflect, and let creativity flow.

Morning light trickles through the trees, birdsong lingers in the crisp air, and Linnéa savours her first coffee of the day on Hattstugan’s wooden porch, quietly observing the surrounding nature. Soon after, she sets her cup aside and retreats indoors to sketch freely, allowing her impressions to take shape on paper.

In the busyness of everyday life, true stillness has become a rare luxury. For Linnéa — known for her organic, flowing patterns that explore the dialogue between nature and abstraction — the stay at Hattstugan was a deliberate invitation to slow down.

“There were moments at Hattstugan when the sun burst through the clouds, and the ray of light was really compelling to me. That brought me another element which I tried to bring into the artwork.”

A place that mirrors the artist’s dialogue

While she typically works with a restrained palette, the sudden illumination of the vast Swedish landscape added a vibrant splash of colour — a new note woven gently into her art.

At Hattstugan, Linnéa felt instantly at home. She spent her days moving gently between forest walks and sketching sessions, both indoors and outdoors, constantly gathering impressions and simply enjoying the silence.

Nature inspo

“It’s incredible how stepping outside your usual routine can spark so many new thoughts and ideas. This experience has been a beautiful reminder of how important it is to change your surroundings from time to time to gain new perspectives.”

From her seat by the expansive windows — perched between inside and out — Linnéa observed the moss-covered branches and the vivid harmony of different species coexisting in the woods. These quiet studies found their way into her sketches during long, uninterrupted sessions of observing, iterating, sketching, and embracing the calm — simply letting nature work its wonders.

Sketches

From this act of immersing herself in the experience — actively listening to the landscape, the house, and the silent dialogue between them — Linnéa’s artwork emerged, shaped not only by her careful hand but also by the very essence of the place itself.

Revealing the art print

The sketches Linnéa created during her stay are delicate and organic: flowing curves that evoke the tendrils of climbing vines, dotted shapes that echo moss on stone and bark. A muted palette of soft greys, warm browns and deep greens mirrors the Bohuslän coast — punctuated by a deep yellow line curling through the composition, like a ray of sunshine breaking through an overcast sky.

Retreat as Reset

Compared to the familiar pulse of her Gothenburg studio, Hattstugan offered Linnéa a slower, more deliberate state of mind. A place to pause, reflect and reconnect with both her creativity and the natural world — and, in doing so, to gather authentic inspiration.

“I think changing your environment is always a good start when you want to create something new,” Linnéa reflects. The impact might not show immediately, but the seeds are planted — and eventually they find their way into the work.

One of the most memorable moments from her stay was a walk with a local she befriended towards the end of the trip. Guided along a favourite path, Linnéa found new ways to connect with the landscape — new paths, both literal and creative, opening up before her.

Inspiring Spaces – A New Chapter for Your Journey

Hattstugan’s hosts, Christopher and Jonna, invited Linnéa for a stay in their wonderful gem, designed by Swedish architect Mikael Ellsinger. With its bold, striking lines, Hattstugan proved to be the perfect backdrop for Linnéa’s creative retreat. The cabin — its name a nod to the distinct hat-shaped roof — is a living dialogue between minimalistic architectural abstraction and organic, raw materials. Natural wood panelling, wide windows, a careful blend with the wild surroundings, and the sound of raindrops on the metal roof set the scene for a stay rooted in both boldness and serenity. Here, the calm of Scandinavian slow living comes to life — and creativity flows freely.

It’s a place that demands little and gives much: a weekend retreat from the busy demands of everyday life. No rush to entertain, no lists to tick off — just space to observe, to linger, to match the patient rhythm of the surroundings. A stillness modern life rarely allows.
