Lace up your hiking boots: The 4 best hiking trails in Odsherred

Odsherred, with its beautiful nature, is an ideal destination for your next hike. Based on recommendations from our local Landfolk hosts, we have put together a guide to the best hiking trails in Odsherred that you should visit on your next cottage trip.

Conquer the Mountains

Recommended by Helle and Søren.

The beautiful natural area, Bjergene, in Odsherred, is an ideal place for the more seasoned hiker. The landscape has attracted painters for decades, and it's easy to see why when you witness the place with your own eyes. In the area around Bjergene, there are several marked hiking trails, created by the Danish Nature Agency, which take you through the unique hilly terrain.

Helle and Søren, who have a cottage in Veddinge Bakker, particularly recommend a walk in the area around Vejrhøj, which is a large burial mound located by Nekselø Bay in the Odsherred Arches. From here, you have a fantastic 360-degree view of Sejerø Bay and Lammefjorden. After ascending Vejrhøj, you can take a trip out to "Vraget" and rest to the sound of the waves. "Vraget" is, despite its name, a beautiful sandy beach. The name comes from the fact that a stranded fishing cutter lay there for many years.

Visit the top of Odsherred

Recommended by Tine & Morten.

At the top of Odsherred, right by Hesselø Bay, lies the cottage town of Klint. In Klint, Tine and Morten recommend taking a walk out to the massive and impressive cliffs, Klintebjerg, which stand like a mountain right by the Kattegat. Along Klintebjerg, there are several hiking trails, including a narrow path that runs along the edge of the cliff. From here, you can look out over the Kattegat. If you venture down to the stony coast, you might be lucky enough to find old fossils or perhaps edible herbs for your cottage dinner.

Tine and Morten's cottage is no more than a 10-minute drive from Klintebjerg. Park your car at Klint Havn and take a walk along the coast to the old chalk quarry. Klint Havn also offers several good restaurants and cozy cafés where you can settle down after a day on foot.

Take a walk along the Tuse Næs peninsula

Recommended by Michelle and Mikkel.

The Tuse Næs peninsula is known for its varied nature and is a wonderful place for those who love a good hike. Here you can follow the peninsula's coast and experience no less than three fjords on your way; Holbæk Fjord, Isefjord, and Lammefjorden.

During your trip to Tuse Næs, you can stop at Michelle and Mikkel's cottage, where you can relax with a view of open fields and grazing horses. If you look closely, on your way to the water, you'll find a hidden little path between the tall reeds. Along the path, you'll pass two bathing jetties, perfect for a cool afternoon dip in the blue waves.

Go on a harbor excursion

Recommended by Trine and Allan.

On Sjællands Odde, there are plenty of opportunities to lace up your hiking shoes and set off. The high-lying moraine landscape, formed during the Ice Age, is quite special. Take the trip from Trine and Allan's cottage to Havnebyen (the Harbor Town). You can walk from Odden Church down to the coast and follow the water until you reach Odden Havn. However, be aware of the stony terrain.

In Havnebyen, you can experience an authentic harbor environment, just as it should be. Especially the well-known fish smokehouse, Fiskerøgeriet Sjællands Odde, with its fantastic view over the water and delicious smoked goods, is worth a visit.

Trine and Allan also recommend a good cup of coffee at Havnebyens Kaffebar and a visit to the farm shop Birkemosegård, where organic vegetables and fruits, as well as meat from their own farm, are sold.
