Taste Odsherred: Where to eat and drink on your cottage trip
Freshly caught oysters, home-grown organic wine, and castle gourmet. Scenic Odsherred naturally offers wonderful food and drink, but where should you go? We've created a guide for you so you can taste the best of Odsherred's culinary scene.
Summer idyll at Pilegården
Whether it's lunch, dinner, a glass of wine, or a picnic, Pilegården has you covered with good seasonal ingredients. Right now, you can buy a picnic basket from Pilegården consisting of a wealth of French delicacies, such as French salami, rillette, country pâté, Parisian ham, cheeses, baguette, and much more. Close to Pilegården in Vig is Hønsinge Lyng, where you can take your picnic basket and enjoy its delicacies with family, friends, or your partner – or all of them at once. Here you can watch the sunset and enjoy life. If you prefer a restaurant experience, explore the lunch and dinner menu at Pilegården.
In Vig, there are plenty of scenic areas, so we suggest that the trip doesn't end here. Spend the night in Stina and Thomas's summer house, and enjoy each other's company with full and happy bellies.
Enjoy lunch at Havnsø
No matter if you bring your own lunch or enjoy it at Havnsø Fisk, Havnsø is definitely worth a visit. Here is a beautiful boat harbor where you can watch sailing boats come in and out of the harbor. You can also take walks along the coast after lunch and look at the landscape and the sea. Bring your swimwear so you and those with you can enjoy the summer weather and the blue waves all day long.
At Havnsø Fisk, it is recommended to order oysters and drink a cold glass of white wine, if you are into that kind of thing. Despite being a small harbor town, it is known for having ferries to Nekselø and Sejerø, which are definitely also worth a visit when you are in the area anyway. A 20-minute drive from Havnsø is Ane Kirstine's beautiful 70s summer house with the wildest view over Sejerø Bay. In true 70s style, attention has been paid to light incidence, so you can enjoy both sunrise and sunset indoors as well as outdoors on the wooden terrace that surrounds the entire summer house.
Explore Dragsholm Castle
At Dragsholm Castle, you will find a gourmet restaurant, the coziest bistro, and a food house for a small hunger and thirsty palate. You get Nordic gourmet of exceptional class, which you are sure to remember for a long time. The area is absolutely fantastic for walks, and you can truly experience history and nature going hand in hand if you visit the castle. The restaurant is located in a vegetable field, which can be seen and tasted in their food.
Sightseeing at Vejrhøj
Close to Dragsholm Castle lies Vejrhøj, which is Denmark's first UNESCO Global Geopark. Vejrhøj is a burial mound, the top of which is 121 meters above the water's surface. There are many good hiking trails in the area where you can clear your head and switch off your thoughts. Settle down somewhere and enjoy a good lunch while looking out over the landscape.
In the area, you can also visit Vejrhøj Vingård, which is run by Nina and Niels Fink. In 2011, they ventured into becoming vineyard owners and have never looked back. Since then, Niels has become a sommelier, and the vineyard is supported by the European Agricultural Fund, with the aim of increasing organic farming. The climate in the area is ideal for viticulture, where Nina and Niels mainly produce white wines on their 10,000 vines spread over three hectares. The vineyard regularly offers tastings and events where you can be shown around the area while tasting the wine. Close to Vejrhøj, you can continue to enjoy Odsherred's nature from Lars and Rikke's retro gem of a summer house.
Picnic in Kongsøre Forest
Forest and coast meet in Kongsøre Forest, where you can go on an excursion with a good lunch or a Trangia set for dinner. There are many sights in the forest, but Strandskredet is particularly popular. Here you get a bathing beach with a bathing jetty, and you can find shade and shelter among the trees by the beach. There are also tables, benches, and a barbecue area by the beach. The area has the 'Kyst og Strand' flag, which in Odsherred means that you will find clean water and nature experiences at that particular beach. You can download the Kyst og Strand app for more information about the beaches in Odsherred.
You can also visit Barkladen or Isefjordspladsen and settle down with your picnic there. At Isefjordspladsen, you get a view over the fjord while sitting among trees and forest floor.
