Guide to a holiday home stay in Ebeltoft

Ebeltoft exudes holiday home idyll with its cobblestone streets, long sandy beaches, and rolling moraine hills. Here, there's something for nature and culture lovers, young and old, for the palate and the heart. With the help of our wonderful Landfolk hosts, we've put together a guide for your holiday home stay on Denmark's 'nose'.

See the view from Jernhatten

*Recommended by Birthe and Leif

A stone's throw from Birthe and Leif's holiday home lies the moraine hill Jernhatten – the outpost to Mols Bjerge's hilly ice age landscape. The couple often pass by to walk through Jernhatten's enchanting troll forest of crooked beech trees enveloped in dark green ivy and a carpet of blue and white anemones in early spring. From an almost 50-meter-high viewpoint, you can gaze out over the Kattegat and the island of Hjelm, rising from the sea on the horizon.

Drink locally brewed beer and soda at Ebeltoft Gårdbryggeri

*Recommended by Maria and Kent

If you need a cool refreshment after your walk to the top of Jernhatten, swing by the small family-owned Ebeltoft Gårdbryggeri at the foot of the hill. Here, cold, home-brewed beers and sodas are just waiting to be taken out into nature. Settle down at the farm's tables and benches and enjoy all sorts of different beers or sodas brewed from natural ingredients. At the farm, you can also buy bread and sausages for the grill, which is lit all summer long for free use.

Get a cultural saltwater injection at Maltfabrikken

*Recommended by Louise and Rasmus

Maltfabrikken with its characteristic red walls is Louise and Rasmus' favorite place in Ebeltoft and a local favorite among our Landfolk hosts. In the old factory's special historical and architectural setting, guests and locals gather for art, music, and food. Here you can find treasures for home decor in the interior design shop, have lunch at Lundbergs Spisehus, drink beer in the factory's own malt house, or enjoy the city's best view from the old chimney. Don't miss the many summer events – from yoga and board games to long-table dinners and summer music.

Go hiking in Nationalpark Mols Bjerge

*Recommended by Jakob and Christine

The moraine hills in Mols Bjerge are a unique natural area formed during the last ice age when mighty ice masses shifted the landscape. Today, the hills contain a network of nature trails that you can explore on your holiday home trip. In the summer half of the year, the hills are perfect for hiking and mountain biking, and in the autumn, you can follow Jakob and Christine's example and go mushroom hunting or pick blackberries for homemade jam.

If you need inspiration, download the app that guides you to good hiking routes, or explore Naturstyrelsen's tips for 13 beautiful places you can visit in Mols Bjerge. For example, get a good blow from the top of Trehøje, which rises 127 meters above sea level and is named after the area's three prominent Bronze Age mounds. Here you can enjoy a 360-degree view from Ebeltoft to Aarhus, with a view of the winding coastline and four coves: Kalø, Knebel, Ebeltoft, and Begtrup.

Drink the city's best coffee at the harbor

*Recommended by Marc

The waterfront in Ebeltoft houses everything from a glassblowing workshop to a delicatessen and the café Apelgren Jordt, which is Marc and his family's favorite coffee spot and widely known for Ebeltoft's best coffee. Settle down in the bright and cozy surroundings, inspired by owners Johanna and Rasmus' origins in Sweden and Swaziland. Here you can drink a delicious cup of home-roasted coffee and enjoy a piece of homemade cake with a view of cutters and fishing nets.

Buy fresh fish for lunch

*Recommended by Karen and Hans Jørgen

While you're at the harbor, you can conveniently fill your bag with fresh fish for lunch on the terrace. Karen and Hans Jørgen often visit the fishing harbor in the morning when the cutter Margrethe comes in with various flatfish and Norway lobsters, which can be bought from 7:30 AM. You can also stop by the popular shop Flyvefisken, where the counter is overflowing with fresh and smoked fish, or you can eat fish in style at the oyster bar, which serves seafood platters, oysters, and bubbles with a view of the water.

Spot sea eagles at Stubbe Sø

*Recommended by Martin

Stubbe Sø is Djursland's largest lake and a perfect spot for a peaceful morning of birdwatching. On the eastern shore, you'll find the lovely bird tower with space for three people. From here, you can see large flocks of ducks, swans, and geese up close, the marsh harrier gliding over the reeds, or perhaps sea eagles, who also like to visit the lake. If you need a rest, there are tables and benches by the lakeside where you can enjoy a cup of brought coffee or an outdoor lunch.

Explore Ebeltoft's charming streets

*Recommended by Line and Henrik

Ebeltoft is a peaceful little time capsule where you can slow down and stroll through winding streets with cobblestones, crooked half-timbered houses, and blooming hollyhocks. Visit the city's historic heart in the square with the old town hall built in 1789, and explore fine small craft shops. If you're looking for genuine attractions, Glasmuseet Ebeltoft and Fregatten Jylland await you at the waterfront.

Sea bathing at beautiful beaches

*Recommended by Maibritt and Jens

Ebeltoft nestles between the sea and coves, and it's never far to the next swimming beach. Vibæk Strand is a popular spot for windsurfers, while Maibritt and Jens particularly recommend the lesser-known Boeslum Strand with its fine white sand, clear shallow water, and blooming beach meadows. Here you can jump into the waves, skip stones, build sandcastles, collect shells, or spend warm days by the water.

Say hello to giraffes at Ree Park

*Recommended by Signe Helene and her son

From Signe Helene and her family's holiday home area, it is said that you can hear the lions from Ree Park roar if the wind is right. Signe Helene and her son love to visit the safari park, which is a paradise for children, the young at heart, and animal lovers. The park particularly focuses on endangered animal species, and here you can go on a safari on the African savanna and ride a train across the prairie. Say hello to giraffes and get up close to lions, rhinos, and all sorts of other animals.

Find flea market treasures and local specialties at Øer Gårdbutik

*Recommended by Signe and Ronni

Signe and Ronni's holiday home is a stone's throw from the architect-designed Øer holiday village. This unique enclave consists of 7 islands with square wooden houses between canals, harbor basins, and bathing jetties – almost like a small Venice. At the holiday village, you can use the swimming pool and playground, and Signe and Ronni recommend that you visit Øer Gårdbutik, where the shelves are overflowing with meat from the local butcher, sourdough bread, flea market finds, and local delicacies.
