Guide: 3 outdoor activities in North Zealand you must try

Outdoor activities in nature provide energy for both body and soul. North Zealand's beautiful nature truly invites an active holiday. Here you can experience beautiful coastlines, lovely beaches, deep forests, open plains, and heather-clad hills. We have gathered the 3 best outdoor activities you can try when on a cottage holiday in North Zealand.

Experience the thrill and excitement of flying on water

On the southeastern tip of the Halsnæs peninsula in North Zealand, close to Hundested, lies Lynæs. Lynæs has a cozy surf center, Lynæs Surfcenter, where you can eat and swim on the beach. You can also rent paddleboards and go on a meditative trip on the sea and feel the silence. If you're in the mood for more exhilarating water sports activities, you can also take a windsurfing course or a kitesurfing course. It's also possible to rent kayaks and boats, which are ideal for wakeboarding, water skiing, and inner tubing. In other words, there are plenty of opportunities for a variety of activities on the water at Lynæs, which, sheltered by the high cliffs of the headland, has calm waters and perfect conditions for safe and fun water sports for the whole family.

If you get hungry along the way, Lynæs Harbor has several eateries and an ice cream parlor. You can also buy fresh fish to take home from Isefjord Fisk for dinner at your holiday home. At the harbor, there's also a bouncy castle where children can play, and there are good opportunities for crabbing on the jetties.

You'll find several Landfolk holiday homes on the Halsnæs peninsula if you want to explore and experience the area. In addition to fun water activities, the peninsula also offers beautiful views and exciting hiking trails. From Spodsbjerg Lighthouse, for example, you can enjoy a magnificent and completely unique view over the Kattegat. You can also take a walk in the beautiful Ullerup Forest or eat waffles with soft-serve ice cream at Vaffelhjørnet in Hundested. The possibilities on Halsnæs are many.

Experience North Zealand by bike

If you're into active holidays on two wheels, North Zealand is made for you. In North Zealand, you'll find a sea of marked cycling routes that take you past everything from breathtaking sea views and white sandy beaches to cozy coastal towns and deep forests. North Zealand is the perfect place for an active cycling holiday for the whole family, where you can truly see and experience the area's beautiful nature and many attractions.

For example, follow the North Coast Route, which is one of the most popular cycling routes in North Zealand. Here you'll pass a number of cozy coastal towns as well as unique natural areas with beautiful views and fine bathing beaches.

If you're looking for a bit more speed and a sweat on your brow, North Zealand also offers a wealth of fun and challenging MTB routes. You'll find, among other things, Denmark's longest singletrack, the King's Route, in Holte, which takes you through both flat stretches and steep hills.

If you prefer an MTB trip in the forest, you can take the MTB route in Tisvilde Hegn. Here you'll go through a wide variety of terrain, including several natural and cozy forest paths.

Whether you prefer a calm and cozy bike ride in scenic surroundings, or an exhilarating MTB trip on winding trails, it's all possible. You can rent bikes in North Zealand if you don't bring your own. You can also borrow bikes from several of our Landfolk hosts who have holiday homes in North Zealand.

Hiking in Tisvilde

If you're into hiking with beautiful nature and rural idyll, North Zealand is an ideal destination for a holiday home vacation. After only a 40-minute drive by car or train from Copenhagen, you're in the countryside and can experience the best that North Zealand's nature has to offer. Whether you prefer hikes along the water, in the forest, or in rugged hilly terrain, you'll find it in North Zealand. The area is full of exciting, marked hiking trails just waiting to be explored.

Many routes and areas could be mentioned and recommended, but we think the 77 km long pilgrimage route, Tisvildevejen, is something very special. Here you'll pass through the most beautiful parts of Nationalpark Kongernes Nordsjælland, which offers both diverse nature and exciting cultural experiences – perfect for the nature-loving city dweller.

The route starts at Esrum Kloster and ends in Tisvildeleje. Tisvilde is a wonderful town where it's ideal to spend a few days to truly experience the area. With a location close to both the beach, town, and the exciting troll forest, Tisvilde Hegn, there's plenty to enjoy in the area, and there are ample opportunities for lovely walks all year round, regardless of the season. Tisvilde town has lovely shops, cafes, and restaurants, as well as good opportunities for shopping and local produce. In the summer, you can advantageously use the local farms when buying meat and vegetables. You can also supplement dinner with good mushrooms from the forest that you have collected yourself.

You'll find several Landfolk holiday homes in Tisvildeleje, for example, Tine's luxurious holiday home with a Nordic bohemian atmosphere. Here you can suitably pamper your perhaps somewhat sore feet after the hike, find peace, and relax while enjoying the view from the large terrace.
