Summer Activities in Tisvildeleje: 5 Fun Activities with Children
Tisvilde has it all for a family holiday: Beach, forest, town, playgrounds, and exciting excursion destinations for the whole family. We guide you to five fun activities in the local area that you can embark on together on your next cottage trip.
The summer house is a sanctuary where there is time to take things at the children's pace: Get morning bread from the baker and freshly fried fish cakes from the fishmonger, play board games on grey days and cards on the terrace, and throw stones in the water and catch crabs at the beach. And then, of course, there is time to explore Tisvilde's beautiful excursion destinations – you can, among other things, pet cute farm animals, go on an adventure in the Troll Forest, travel back to the time of the Knights Templar, and go stargazing at the edge of the forest.
Visit the farm and cuddle with cute baby animals
A short 10-minute drive from Tisvildeleje lies the cozy Grønnehavegård visitor farm with half-timbering and a thatched roof. Here, the farmer will show you around among the animals, and you will have ample opportunity to both feed and cuddle with cute little rabbits, guinea pigs, ducklings, goslings, chicks, and kittens. Afterwards, the trip goes across the fields in a tractor to visit the highland cattle, and there is also pony riding on the program, where either mom or dad gets to lead the pony.
All the practicalities: The visit costs 90 kroner for everyone over 2 years old, and if you need a refreshment, you will find a small café on the farm where you can get an ice cream – and a cup of coffee for the adults.
Enjoy the day at Tisvilde Beach
Tisvilde has a lovely child-friendly sandy beach with soft dunes to tumble in and water to splash around in – here there is a blue flag and no stones at the water's edge. For water lovers, there are good opportunities to rent SUPs and sea kayaks and take a paddle or kayak trip along the coast, where porpoises and seals might greet you if you are lucky.
For landlubbers, the nature playground right at the end of the parking lot is a must. Here you will find a wonderland of zip lines, tubes, and wooden bridges to climb on, and a capsized ship where children can play pirate games. Of course, no beach day is complete without a visit to Strandkiosken, where you can satisfy your hunger with a burger or get an ice cream. The kiosk also offers adults a glass of wine with a view of the water, while the children play among the hammocks with sand between their toes.
Go on an adventure in the Troll Forest
Forest walks in Tisvilde Hegn are almost a given. The enclosure is filled with secret and special places – including the lost village of Torup, which was buried under a meter-thick layer of sand. But most magical of all is the Troll Forest with its gnarled, crooked old trees. Here you can try your hand at the “sword in the stone” stone, where many knight aspirants over time have unsuccessfully tried to pull the sword out of the stone.
Take the Natureventyr app with you in your pocket on your forest walk. Natureventyr creates adventure routes for children aged 3-8, and at Tisvilde Hegn, you can follow in the footsteps of the mouse Svip through forest paths and ruins on the journey to the sword in the stone. If you need a rest, there are tables and benches in the area where you can eat packed lunches.

Travel back to the time of the Knights Templar
A 20-minute drive from Tisvildeleje, you can visit Esrum Monastery – a genuine 850-year-old Cistercian monastery, where history is embedded in the walls, and you can almost hear the monks' chanting and the horses' whinnying. Hop on the time machine back to the Middle Ages and the time of the Knights Templar, and explore the monks' lives in the cloister garden and the monastery garden's 200 medicinal herbs with special healing properties. Also, keep an eye out for the monastery's many fun activities all year round.
Perhaps most popular is the nature playground – a medieval village made of wood, where children can barricade themselves behind a moat and zip line in the fortress or play merchants and apprentices in the marketplace. When you need to rest your legs, you can settle down at the Eatery, where you can eat packed lunches or make twist bread over the campfire.
Stargaze at the edge of the forest
Right on the outskirts of Tisvildeleje's summer house area by Tisvilde Hegn lies the Wieth-Knudsen Observatory. Here, far from the city lights and streetlights, you get the opportunity to spot the most beautiful starry sky and observe astronomical phenomena through the dome room's telescope. Test observations show that Tisvilde has particularly good weather conditions for astronomical observations.
Twice a month, the observatory is open on Saturday evenings – regardless of the weather. It is open to everyone and admission is free, and if you are lucky, you will catch a rare astronomical phenomenon in the binoculars. Check the observatory's opening hours here.
