Taste Djursland: Culinary experiences on Jutland's nose
World-class gastronomic experiences, local ingredients, homemade beach burgers, and freshly caught fish. Scenic Djursland is a true treasure trove of culinary experiences, and all over the peninsula, there are plenty of opportunities for both big and small taste adventures. We have therefore created a guide, with the help of our dear Landfolk hosts with holiday homes on Djursland, featuring the best food experiences.
Taste the atmospheric Ebeltoft
In addition to charming cobblestone streets, art, culture, and an atmospheric harbor environment, Ebeltoft also offers a wealth of good eateries and local gastronomic experiences. Jakob and Christine, who own the holiday home 'Lærkebo' near Ebeltoft, recommend visiting Maltfabrikken, which makes delicious food with a passion for good local ingredients. The place is steeped in history, architectural details, and culture. In the summer, there's street food and a skate park for the children. The drinks mainly come from the local brewery, Ebeltoft Gårdbryggeri.
If you just fancy a good cup of coffee, you won't find better coffee in Djursland than at Apelgren Jordt Coffee, a cozy place by the harbor where you can get a good cup of coffee, delicious bread, and cake.
World-class gastronomic experience at Molskroen
If you're into top-tier gastronomic experiences, Katrine and Peter, who have a holiday home by Ebeltoft Vig, recommend visiting Molskroen. Molskroen is beautifully situated near Mols Bjerge, with views over Ebeltoft Vig and a few steps from the beach. Here, in addition to a lavish dining experience, you'll find romance and nostalgia in true seaside hotel style.
Molskroen also has a small ice cream parlor, Molskroens Ishus, on the child-friendly beach, Femmøller Strand. Here you can, among other things, get a delicious Mols Waffle with Hansen cream and sorbet ice cream. In July and August, Molskroen has a food truck on the beach serving juicy, homemade beach burgers to-go, which you can enjoy on the beach, on the go, or take home to the holiday home.
Delicate fish specialties at Restaurant Ved Vandet
On the Tved/Skødshoved peninsula, there are also opportunities for delicious culinary experiences. Charlotte and Michael, who have an architect-designed 70s holiday home on the peninsula, recommend that you go down to Skødshoved Harbor, where Skødshoved Badehotel is located. The seaside hotel has its own restaurant, Restaurant Ved Vandet, which, as the name suggests, is situated with a view over Aarhus Bay. The restaurant particularly focuses on delicious fish dishes.
Not far from the restaurant is Skødshoved Strand, which is a child-friendly beach with a Blue Flag, and one of the best beaches on all of Djursland. On the beach, there is an ice cream kiosk where you can get a lovely ice cream for dessert. If you are on a holiday home vacation on the Tved/Skødshoved peninsula, you should also pick up freshly baked morning bread at King Carrot, which you can eat with freshly laid farm eggs, available for purchase along the roads in several places on the peninsula.
Delicious local produce in Grenaa
In the cozy and historic market town of Grenaa, you will find several fine cafes and restaurants. If you prefer to cook yourself in the holiday home, Annelene and Søren recommend visiting Høbjerg Gartneri, which is brimming with the most delicious local vegetables, strawberries, and specialties.
Annelene and Søren also recommend the farm shop's meatballs and potato salad, which taste so delicious and can be enjoyed in the shop's own courtyard. While you're there, you can seek shelter for the night in Annelene and Søren's cozy family holiday home just a few minutes' drive from Høbjerg Gartneri. They also enjoy visiting Ladefogedgaarden & Cafe in Vejlby, which is about 7 km from the holiday home. Here you can get a particularly delicious cup of specialty coffee, cake, delightful white wine, and other delicacies. They have the most romantic garden and live music is played during high season.
Freshly caught fish for the grill at the holiday home
When you talk about culinary experiences in Djursland, you naturally also talk about fresh fish. Djursland is particularly known for its many good fishing spots along the 250 km long coastline. Sea trout fishing, in particular, is one of the specialties. Therefore, you will also find many fishmongers on the peninsula where you can buy freshly caught fish to take home and enjoy in the holiday home.
A little south of Rønde, in southern Djursland, you will find Mols Røgeri. The smokehouse always has a large selection of fresh homemade specialties, such as freshly fried fish cakes, plaice fillets, organic mussels, and many other delicious smoked goods and fish dishes.
At the other end of Djursland, near Fjellerup in northern Djursland, you will also find several local fishmongers where you can get freshly caught fish, such as Andersens Fiskehandel, located on Fjellerup Strand.
