Landfolk recommends: Holiday destinations and activities for the whole family

There is something almost magical about childhood summers. And even as adults, the memories of warm summer evenings by the sea, having unlimited time with our parents and just existing together rather than rushing from one place to the next, still feel present. If you want to give your kids a fun and relaxing summer holiday, this article is for you.

When becoming parents, cultivating these magical memories and pockets of time for our children becomes paramount and in this article, our team shares their very best tips on where to stay and what to do. But in truth, the magic of summer lies in slowing down and being able to just be together. So, whatever you have planned for the holiday with your kids this summer, know that what they will most likely look back on is not what you did, but the time you spent together.

Paddleboard

“Stand-up paddleboarding is a really fun water activity for all the playful souls, and only requires warm weather or a wetsuit”

Christian is our CEO and one of the co-founders of Landfolk. Both he and his teenagers, aged 12 and 16, love activities on land and in the water.

“Stand-up paddleboarding is a really fun water activity for all the playful souls, and only requires warm weather or a wetsuit. Apart from that, I would definitely recommend the ‘cornhole game’, which is well on its way to becoming our favourite garden game that everyone can join in on.”

What destination do you dream of visiting with your teens?
I dream of visiting Bornholm for the first time with my family – both because it’s supposedly a fantastic experience in terms of nature and gastronomy, but also because Landfolk has so many extraordinary houses on the island.

Which Landfolk holiday home would you love to visit this summer?
I think this Norwegian cabin looks absolutely amazing, with its blend of Nordic and Japanese design and architecture – which means a lot to me when I am on vacation. Besides, the views and nature are always world-class no matter where in Norway you visit.

Fun with the kids

“I plan using the world’s best map app (Topo-GPS) in combination with recommended routes from alltrails.com”

Asger is the COO of Landfolk and he loves doing all kinds of outdoor activities with his family. Their holiday home getaways, with kids ages 7 and 10, are therefore always a combination of relaxing and just being together, and day trips on mountain bikes, in canoes, or hiking. “I plan using the world’s best map app (Topo-GPS) in combination with recommended routes from alltrails.com” he underlines.

What destination are you currently dreaming about visiting with your kids?
There are lots of things on my list. Among them are hiking in Thy, cross-country skiing in the Norwegian mountains and mushroom picking in the south of Sweden. In my family, we love outdoor life, campfires, and getting "back to basics."

Which Landfolk holiday home would you love to visit this summer?
I would love to visit this charming swedish holiday home on an island, with stunning views to fish and relax.

Play

“Open-air museums, castles, and visitor farms are always a great experience for both younger and older children.”

Anna is Landfolk’s Marketing Manager for the German market and her girls, aged 5 and 10, love exploring the historic houses and cobblestone streets of Den Gamle By. The museum is located in Aarhus and is one of the best open-air museums in Denmark and really excels at bringing Danish history to life.

They also love walking through the gardens of Fredensborg Palace or the par force hunting landscape in the UNESCO World Heritage area of Store Dyrehave in North Zealand.

“Open-air museums, castles, and visitor farms are always a great experience for both younger and older children,” she highlights.

What destination are you currently dreaming about visiting with your kids?
In our family, we love a balanced combination of nature and cultural experiences. We prefer to spend our holidays outside the city and far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. You can find us by lakes, looking for birds or other animals, or on bike- or hiking trips. And if there’s an exciting, child-friendly museum or castle or other historical buildings nearby, we are also happy to dip back into the city for a while. Because of that, both Djursland, North Zealand, and Skåne are perfect destinations for us.

Which Landfolk holiday home would you love to visit this summer?
We dream of taking ‘Snälltåget’ from Copenhagen to Stockholm and relaxing in this charming red house in the archipelago. I can already imagine the children laughing and running around the house! A swim in the lake after our morning coffee on the lovely terrace must feel amazing.
