Experience scenic nature on the holiday island of Anholt
In the middle of the blue waves of the Kattegat lies an island that, with its dunes and beaches, welcomes you to presence and tranquility – the island of Anholt.
When summer knocks on the door, it's a time when most people need to unwind. It's a time when family and friends gather, and when summer nights can feel like they never quite end. Perhaps you gather around a bonfire on a starry night or spend the whole day at the beach. No matter what you're into, there are plenty of experiences on Anholt that can make your summer unforgettable.
Anholt's harbor environment
When you stay in a Landfolk holiday home on Anholt, you can truly experience the island and everything it has to offer. This way, you have a base where you can, among other things, buy fish and seafood from the harbor and prepare a dinner for the whole family at your own pace. Anholt is actually known for its special harbor environment, where early in the morning you can experience fishing cutters coming in with fresh produce. You can also grab a coffee at the harbor's local coffee shop while enjoying the morning sunbeams.
Not only is the harbor home to fishing cutters and pleasure boats, but it's also a place where you can rent bikes from. It's also the ideal way to see and experience Anholt, as the island is no larger than 22 square kilometers. You can cycle from Anholt Harbor to Anholt Lighthouse, which is at opposite ends of the island, in about 30 minutes.
Possibly the best beaches and bathing water
Although it's probably a matter of taste in the end, it's no secret that you can experience some of the best bathing beaches on Anholt. Among dunes and white sand, you can spend the whole day sunbathing, swimming in the sea, and enjoying the sight of the large sand desert, also called 'Ørkenen' (The Desert), which covers Anholt.
If you're not the type who enjoys pure relaxation on the beach, you can bring various activities that you can easily take with you on your holiday home trip. If you just have a small shovel and a little good imagination, you can spend the day building sandcastles. You can also bring a game of beach tennis, as it doesn't take up much space when it comes to packing your holiday bag. Or you can read our recommendations for good podcasts or books that you can immerse yourself in during your holiday home trip. This way, you can enjoy the warm sand, the blue waves, and fateful dilemmas or fun stories all at the same time.
Kitesurfing and Ibiza vibes
In week 30 on Anholt, you can experience the so-called Kitetræf, where kitesurfers camp, socialize and party. Just 500 meters from the actual camping area, there are often parties in true beach party style, as if you were on holiday in Ibiza. And make no mistake, you might for a moment forget that you are actually in Denmark and not on a Spanish holiday island. You can easily go to Kitetræf even if you are a complete beginner, as it is open to everyone.
Desert hiking
On Anholt, you can go hiking in Northern Europe's largest low heath, better known as the Desert. The landscape is known for dunes, long beaches, and vegetation including everlasting flowers and clubmoss. At the outermost tip of the Desert, you can reach Totten. This area is completely protected, as up to 1200 seals stay here every year. You can see these seals from Anholt Lighthouse, which is also an attraction in itself.
The lighthouse was initially built in 1560 as one of Denmark's first and later replaced in 1785, which is the current lighthouse.
Holiday home in peace and quiet
When everyday life gets under your skin and feels all-encompassing, a good solution can be a holiday home. Here you get the opportunity to completely unwind and do exactly what you want in different, yet homely surroundings. Holiday homes on Anholt have a special charm, as the island's living conditions mean that you have nature right outside your doorstep, but at the same time can experience the hustle and bustle of people and life. In the evening, you can enjoy a starry sky rarely seen in Denmark, as the island is not disturbed by light pollution from cities. And perhaps you'll even be lucky enough to see a shooting star.
