Where to Shop New Gems & Pre-loved

Welcome to the cobblestone streets of Rudkøbing, the largest city on Langeland, where the city center looks like something straight out of a fairytale. Wander through narrow streets lined with charming, colourful houses and beautiful, typical Danish hollyhocks. In the small shops, you can find various keepsakes, and for something truly nostalgic, we recommend visiting the well-stocked second-hand shops.

When passing through Svendborg on your way to your island destination, Studio Sæsse should be at the top of your list. At Studio Sæsse, you'll find a selection of handmade goods by Danish niche designers, carefully curated by the owners Johanne and Mads. If you're curious about Danish artisan ceramics, jewelry, and clothes made from vintage fabrics, you should definitely stop by.

Where to Eat

As a rule of thumb, great coffee with a cardamom bun is never far away in Denmark (and should not be missed). But when roaming the scenic landscape of Langeland all day, you should definitely opt for a wholesome meal for lunch or dinner. Restaurant 1758 invites you to explore the taste of the island in historical surroundings. Located on a lovely countryside estate painted in the brightest yellow, the restaurant offers an intimate atmosphere perfect for indulging in their Nordic cuisine, made from freshly harvested local groceries and meats as well as delightful herbs from their own gardens, casually combined with goods from Norway and other Scandinavian countries.

For a more casual dining experience, Gaardhaven Rudkøbing is worth a visit. Nestled in a backyard and decorated with unique second-hand furniture, dining at Gaardhaven Rudkøbing feels like barbecuing with old friends. The menu is inspired by original Spanish tapas and made to be shared with your loved ones or simply the person next to you.

Cool down like one of the locals with an ice cream from the local craft ice cream makers Skarø Is. If you get the chance, visit the original shop on the tiny island of Skarø, close to Langeland – a truly relaxing trip for the whole family!

In the small café Haven at the Skovsgaard nature destination, there are excellent cakes and delicious savoury dishes made from ingredients grown in the manor house's own garden.

Where to Relax

Langeland offers plenty of places to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life all year round. Whether you prefer a long walk through the forest to clear your mind or practicing digital detox while spending a hot summer day on the beach, Langeland has something for everyone.

During the warmer months, the island's beaches provide the perfect backdrop for relaxation. As fall arrives, the bathing season doesn’t end for Scandinavians; they embrace another great tradition: winter bathing. At Langeland, Badeanstalten Rudkøbing is the ideal spot to experience this Nordic self-care routine. Located at the harbor, the bathhouse offers a place to change and take a hot shower afterward. If you need more warmth after an ice-cold plunge, [Sauna Lohals](https://www.govisitlangeland.com/langeland/plan-journey/winterbadep unkt-lohals-gdk1129290) is the perfect way to upgrade your winter bathing experience, allowing you to warm up before and after the refreshing dip.

Where to Satisfy Your Inner History Enthusiast

From colourful harbor city houses to grand estates, there is always a historical gem to discover on Langeland. Explore the area around the red castle of Tranekær, which, according to sources dating back to the 1200s, is the oldest inhabited house in Denmark. Another fascinating destination is the Skovsgaard Estate, open to the public. The estate was gifted to Denmark's Nature Foundation in 1951. As both a gift and a task, Skovsgaard Estate was turned into a sanctuary for wild nature.

Where to Indulge in Scenic Nature

As one of the wildest places on Langeland, the Skovsgaard Estate, should be on your bucket list. Here, you can encounter animals big and small, with some of the most impressive being wild horses and cows that roam the land to promote the unique biodiversity of the area.

When it’s not nesting season, you shouldn't miss an exciting birding tour, where you might see white-tailed eagles residing on the estate. If you can't get enough of this magical place and want to support their project of preserving and reestablishing wild nature, you can book a stay in one of three beautiful cottages in the midst of nature.

All cottages are rented out as part of the collaboration between Denmark's Nature Foundation and Landfolk to preserve and protect Danish natural areas. All income from bookings of these holiday homes goes directly to Denmark's Nature Foundation to protect nature and manage the foundation's properties and areas as naturally as possible—for the benefit of all of us.

How to get to Langeland

As Langeland is connected to Funen via a bridge, you can reach your destination by car or public transport through the beautiful town of Svendborg. However, when traveling from Germany, there is a scenic shortcut: hop on the ferry from Fynshav (near Flensburg) to Bøjden on Langeland.
