In the eastern part of Jutland, you'll find Djursland, which consists of charming towns and wild nature. If your summer holiday takes you there, we've put together a guide for you to explore nature on Jutland's 'nose'.
Go mountain biking in the wild nature
Recommended by Tina and Søren.
Mols Bjerge National Park is a Danish nature park on Djursland. The area consists of hilly landscapes, coastlines, and wild animals – perfect for a mountain bike trip where both terrain and sightseeing come together in perfect harmony. Take a break from the relaxing surroundings of your holiday home and speed through the landscape.
Mols Bjerge National Park has tips and tricks on where you can book a guided mountain bike tour, whether it's a regular trip or for a larger event.
Hikes from Langemosen to Strandkær
Langemosestien is a hiking trail in Mols Bjerge from Langemosen to Strandkær, where you can experience views over Ebeltoft Vig. Here, cattle graze for nature conservation, and you can find a carnivorous plant called sundew. Langemosen is a so-called 'hanging bog', which means the ground sways beneath you when you step on it, and it is an extremely rare type of nature. However, it is not always safe to step onto a hanging bog, so you should not do so without caution.
On the trip, there are plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy the scenery. Pack a lunch to enjoy when your legs need a rest.
Pick strawberries in unlimited quantities
Schmidts Jordbær is a pick-your-own plantation near Grenaa, where you and the whole family can pick strawberries. The plantation has existed for more than 25 years and is known for its delicious strawberries. The place is run by Phillip and Poul Viggo Schmidt, who are the second generation in the family business. In their pick-your-own fields, you can also find peas and potatoes, which you can use to prepare delicate dishes. You can read more about the strawberry varieties here. You can take a full-day trip to Schmidts Jordbær. However, we recommend a whole weekend trip to Djursland so that you and your companions can truly enjoy more of the area. See nature at Sletterhage Lighthouse
Recommended by Line and Morten.
Whether it's just the walk, the lighthouse itself, or fishing that attracts you, it's worth visiting Sletterhage Lighthouse and the surrounding nature in Knebel. Here you can enjoy a good lunch in the packed lunch house with space for 24 people, and in the summer, it's possible to go up into the lighthouse. The water is not suitable for swimming, but enjoy beautiful walks here where your thoughts can run free.
If you're up for trying your hand at fishing, there are plenty of opportunities. Here you can find a guide to fishing if you're a beginner and could use a few tips and tricks.
Idyllic, sand islands and kitesurfing – welcome to Ahl Strand
Recommended by Line and Henrik.
Ahl Strand is a beach in Ebeltoft, which is a favorite among children and adults. The beach is a few hundred meters from the forest, and there are good facilities in terms of parking and toilets. Kitesurfing is also a common sight in the blue waves, as the place is good for this type of water sport. Enjoy a full day at Ahl Strand, where you can sunbathe, swim in the water, and enjoy the salty wind. Pack a good lunch from home consisting of delicious snacks and filling food that can easily be taken to the beach. It's also a good beach to try snorkeling to see the varied seabed.
Karlby and Sangstrup Cliffs
See the beautiful cliffs, which with their maximum height of 17 meters adorn Djursland. You can find fossils everywhere on the beach, which will surely be a hit with the children or just those who want to take a cool find home with them. There is also the possibility to bring your fishing gear to Karlby and Sangstrup Cliffs, and you can actually catch sea trout all year round as the seabed consists of stones and limestone flakes – conditions that make it optimal for the fish. A 35-minute drive from the cliffs, Charlotte has the most wonderful holiday home where you can relax after a day at the cliffs and retreat. Despite Charlotte's holiday home being only 45 square meters, there is room for four sleeping guests. You can also unleash your creative soul and paint in her annex with a studio. It's perfect for those more whimsical summer days when the weather might not be entirely tip-top.
