7 events in the summerland you can't miss
From seaweed safaris and art days to summer festivals and boat trips. Go on cozy excursions with the whole family, see cultural gems with friends, or spend special moments with a loved one. Scattered across the Odsherred landscape, a series of wonderful activities await you, which can add a special touch to your cottage trip.
Harvest your own seaweed – and eat it
Put on waders, grab buckets and friends, and embark on a seaweed safari along the coast of Odsherred. On this 2.5-hour vegan safari, you'll become rich in various types of seaweed and gain insights into the future prospects of the sea's edible plants. You'll also get a small masterclass in cooking with seaweed, so you can try preparing your catch back at your holiday home.
Dansk Tang is behind the safari, and after the tour, there's of course the opportunity to buy a selection of the shop's 20 seaweed varieties to take home. If you opt for the extended version of the event, the tour concludes with a 6-course gourmet menu at the Michelin-starred restaurant MOTA, which focuses on the seaweed species you've explored. Go flea market hunting at Tuskemarkedet
If you visit [Vig Tuske- og Kræmmermarked]( (https://www.facebook.com/vigmarked/), you'll likely come home with your arms full of retro trinkets, fun gadgets, and lovely home finds that can add a unique touch to your decor. Denmark's largest – and perhaps coziest – outdoor flea market takes place between the Easter and autumn holidays in Vig and features a wide range of stalls with everything a flea market lover could desire. Start your treasure hunt and hone your bargaining skills when it's time to negotiate prices. The market is open every Saturday and Wednesday.
Pick Lammefjord vegetables at Besøgsmarken
In addition to its characteristic ice age landscape, Odsherred is particularly known for its vegetables grown on reclaimed seabed. In fact, the potatoes, carrots, and asparagus cultivated in the fertile muddy soil are considered some of the country's finest.
See for yourselves when Åben Besøgsmark invites the whole family to visit for a day in the fields. Hear the story of Odsherred's vegetable gold, taste crisp carrots and candy beets, and harvest your own samples for dinner at the holiday home. A ticket costs 50 kroner for adults and 15 for children, and the fields are open for visits every Wednesday and Thursday from late June to early August.
Taste the sweet and sour nuances of Danish wine
Odsherred's many hours of sunshine and its location close to the sea provide exceptionally good (Danish) conditions for growing wine, so take the opportunity to visit one of the area's vineyards: Rørmosegård Vin in Rørvig, Ørnberg Vin on Sjællands Odde, and Vejrhøj Vin in Fårevejle. Every Wednesday in July and August, Rørmosegård invites you for a visit among the grapevines with views of Isefjorden, where the winemaker talks about the farm's organic wines, grape varieties, and verification methods – and, most importantly, serves tastings in the orchard. A ticket costs 150 kroner.
Explore the universe and nature at a summer festival
If you're lucky enough to be in Odsherred in mid-July, don't miss the one-day festival Summer Bloom – the West Zealand little sister of the nature and science festival Bloom. Under the open sky, set against Odsherred's unique ice age landscape, the festival gathers its guests for talks with researchers and artists, live concerts with Danish bands, insect hunting and space travel for the little ones, and all the best food and drink from Odsherred's treasure trove of local producers.
Listen to crisp summer tunes, take refreshing dips, eat food prepared over a campfire, and gain new perspectives on the universe and the nature that surrounds us. The festival takes place on Klintebjerg's amphitheater-shaped slope on July 14, and tickets cost 190 kroner.
Follow the art route around Odsherred
Ever since the Odsherred painters settled in the gentle hills to capture the landscape and light in their works, art has held a special place in the area. This is celebrated four times a year with Art Days (Kunstdage), where a diversity of artists showcase their work and invite interested visitors.
Take a tour of Odsherred's fine galleries, exhibitions, and working studios, where glass is blown, clay is thrown, and brushstrokes are applied. If you miss the Whitsun Art Days, you'll get new chances in September, October, and November – so just download the app and plan your own art route.
Enjoy togetherness with an evening cruise on Isefjorden
From late June to early August, skipper Freddy and the over 80-year-old minesweeper Marianne set sail for sunset cruises every Wednesday evening. The trip starts at Rørvig Harbour, after which you sail up to the Skansehage spit and then round Nykøbing Bay, where you can see the sunset shining in the glass mosaic of the Hempel Glass Museum.
Drink a cup of coffee and spend a warm summer evening on the water. Here you can enjoy a very special view over Isefjorden and hear stories about how nature and history have shaped the landscape. If you're lucky, porpoises will pop their heads out of the water and greet you. The trip costs 200 kroner for adults, and you can find tickets here.
Angling in Sejerø Bay, hikes in the ice age landscape, and farm visits in soft, rolling hills. Let yourself be inspired for your next holiday home trip with our lovely holiday homes in Odsherred.
