Taste Tisvilde: Culinary Experiences on the North Coast

Every year, Tisvildeleje attracts many from bustling Copenhagen to the fresher climes around this beloved holiday destination. In addition to wonderful nature experiences, Tisvilde also offers many culinary delights that you can enjoy during your cottage holiday. Inspired by our dear Landfolk hosts, we have handpicked a selection of local eateries for your next taste experience in Tisvildeleje. Bon appétit.

Enjoy North Zealand specialties from local farms

When you are on a cottage holiday in Tisvilde, it is an obvious choice to make use of the many local farm shops in the area when shopping for dinner. Here you can buy everything from local North Zealand specialties to organic fruit and vegetables, as well as meat from free-range cattle.

Visit the cozy farm shop, Butik Bakkegaarden, located in Vejby close to Tisvildeleje. The shop offers a beautiful view over fields and access to a berry and fruit plantation. Here you can, among other things, get locally brewed specialty beer from Det Våde Får in Helsinge and Danish-produced aperitivo from Barkholt. Perfect for a warm summer day on the terrace of the cottage. In Anette and Mikael's cozy cottage in Tisvildeleje close to the beach and town center, there is ample opportunity to enjoy the sun's rays late into the evening. There is both a patio heater and a roof on the large wooden terrace, so you can enjoy nature almost regardless of the weather.

Freshly baked morning bread and local delicacies from Tinggården

In Frederiksværk, only about 30 minutes by bike or 10 minutes by car from Tisvildeleje, lies Restaurant Tinggården. Here you can pick up freshly baked morning bread every morning from 8 AM from the restaurant's country store. In the evening, you can pick up delicious homemade sourdough pizzas, or enjoy dinner in the restaurant's cozy log cabin, where food made primarily from local ingredients is served. For example, the restaurant's fish is caught in Roskilde Fjord, and the vegetables are grown by the restaurant itself in Kolsbæk, only a few kilometers away. All bread is, of course, also homemade and based on organic flour types.

Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, it is possible to get "Husmandskost" (traditional Danish fare) for DKK 165 as take-away, which you can enjoy at home in the cottage with a good bottle of wine.

Lunch with a view of the Kattegat

At the charming and classic seaside hotel, Helenekilde in Tisvilde, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a captivating view of the Kattegat, in cozy, homely surroundings. You can also enjoy the beautiful view with a glass of rosé wine or a cocktail on the hotel's beautiful rooftop terrace.

The seaside hotel's restaurant, Kilden, serves food based on fresh seasonal ingredients, produced locally and organically. The style is modern Nordic, with simple and tasty dishes without too many frills. If you want to eat with your feet in the grass, there is also the option to enjoy food in the hotel's outdoor area, Haven, where food is served over an open fire.

Barbecue food from Kødsnedkeren in Vejby

In Vejby, close to Tisvilde, you will find the small butcher shop, Kødsnedkeren, which is particularly known for its delicious barbecue sausages, produced in the shop's own sausage making facility. At Kødsnedkeren, all meat is Danish and primarily comes from local farmers in North Zealand. The meat is of the absolute highest quality, and only comes from selected free-range animals that have had a good and healthy upbringing.

During the summer, Kødsnedkeren offers delicious barbecue packages with cuts that are ready directly for the grill. It is also possible to order food for take-away, which you can enjoy at home in the cottage. If you want to do the cooking yourself, there is also that option, with the shop's large selection of fresh meat from, among others, Uglekærgård and Hopballe Mølle.

In Anne's cottage in Tisvildeleje, only 350m from the beach, there is ample opportunity to light up the grill in the evening and enjoy barbecue food from Kødsnedkeren. The cottage has both a charcoal and gas grill available on the large terrace, where you can grill in peace and quiet and spend the evening surrounded by old trees and a large sun-drenched lawn.

Eat from nature's own kitchen

In Tisvilde, you are close to a sea of unique nature experiences. Here there are delicious sandy beaches, deep forests, and heather-covered hills. Especially the large nature area, Tisvilde Hegn, is worth a visit when you are in a cottage in Tisvilde. Tisvilde Hegn is known, among other things, for its rich animal and plant life, and is therefore an ideal place to go foraging and collect delicious mushrooms for dinner.

In Jens Thomas' adventurous little sanctuary, Raftehuset in Tisvildeleje, you are only a few minutes from Tisvilde Hegn. The cottage's large natural plot also offers apple trees, berries, and herbs, which, depending on the season, can be picked and eaten as needed. Gather your own lunch and enjoy the food in the charming and atmospheric cottage to the chirping of birds and absolute tranquility.
