Out in nature: Experience autumn up close

Out in nature: Experience autumn up close

Even though summer is winding down, it's far from over for enjoying nature. We've created a guide on how you can best explore autumn's beautiful colours and nature.

Make all sorts of chestnut animals

When the chestnuts have fallen from the trees, it's once again time to make chestnut animals. It's a perfect activity to do in a holiday home, where you have nature right outside your door, and if you have children with you, they're guaranteed to love it. Make a cup of hot cocoa or tea, gather around the table, and create whimsical chestnut animals. Only your imagination sets the limits.

Screen breaks and presence

Autumn is a season that invites us indoors. Summer's beach trips and late evenings on the terrace are replaced by indoor cosiness in front of the fireplace. Here, we tend to fall into everyday patterns and get lost in various screens. Instead, use your holiday home trip to go screen-free as a family. This way, you'll make the most of the presence that autumn invites. Get out the board games and have a family competition, or gather around the cooking in the kitchen.

Landfolk's family-friendly holiday homes always have toys, board games, a playground, or other things you need to enjoy a screen-free autumn holiday together.

Experience art with a view

Not every day invites you to put on your boots and head out into nature. Fortunately, there are plenty of places around where you can experience nature up close, even if you stay indoors in the warmth. Several of our museums are wonderfully located in the middle of the Danish nature, so swing by the ticket counter and let nature come to you.

If you're on a holiday home trip in North Zealand, you should visit Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk. In addition to the museum's beautiful architecture and exciting exhibitions, parts of the museum are elevated above the landscape with the most beautiful view of Nivå Bay.

You can also take a trip to the west coast and visit the Wadden Sea Centre in historic Ribe. Here you can learn more about the rich natural and animal life in the area, while being surrounded by the unique nature of the national park, which has UNESCO World Heritage status.

A cold dip in the sea

Winter bathing is healthy for the body and our well-being, but it can often be difficult to find time for a morning dip in a hectic everyday life. Therefore, a holiday home trip is the perfect place to try your hand at a dip in the cold water.

Anette's peaceful oasis by the North Sea is located near Hvide Sande Harbour, where there is an area specifically for winter bathers, so you can safely jump in. It can be a very good idea to explore the area before you venture into the waves, especially if it's your first time.

A walk in the forest and spot a red deer

Central and West Jutland, as well as Djursland, are the areas where the largest populations of wild red deer reside, and in autumn they are in rut. You can hear their mating roars kilometres away, and you might be lucky enough to spot one of them. However, it is important to keep a safe distance out of respect for the animal and your safety. Don't be sad if you don't spot a red deer. There's plenty else to enjoy in the forest in autumn.

Just the beautiful leaves in the treetops, with their golden hues, stand in beautiful contrast to the otherwise grey weather that autumn can offer. If the weather and your clothes allow, an autumn picnic can be just the thing. Pack a lunch from home with delicacies, snacks, and drinks. Many forests have picnic areas that are particularly suitable for a trip to the forest. You might even be lucky enough to find a playground in the forest where children and the young at heart can romp around.
