Enjoy the view from the dunes at Gilleleje

The North Coast Trail is probably the most famous hiking trail in North Zealand. It is a cycling and hiking route that runs from Helsingør to Hundested along the North Zealand coast. The 66 km long route offers beautiful views, lovely swimming beaches, and unique nature.

The North Coast Trail is a perfect hiking trail for the seasoned hiker, but the route can also easily be divided into several smaller hikes if you don't want to walk all 66 km. Especially the approximately 4 km long stretch between Tinkerup Strand and Gilleleje is highly recommended. Here you leave the beach for a while and instead walk through a small grove and up onto the cliff. From here you have the most fantastic view over the wild slopes. The coast here is shaped in such a way that the sand extends into the water, forming small peninsulas. A truly unique sight that you simply must experience.

From Helsingør to Hammermøllen

If you prefer a slightly longer hiking route, the trip from Helsingør to Gilleleje is also fantastic. Here you will pass, among other things, the historic Renaissance castle, Kronborg, and the cozy maritime museum, M/S Museet for Søfart. If you are into the more local and unknown sights, you should take a walk past Hammermøllen in Hellebæk Skov, which is a beautiful old mill from the 18th century with the most idyllic location. A true gem. The mill is now a museum with a small cozy café attached, which also serves a super delicious brunch.

Cozy villages and beautiful nature experiences on Tisvildevejen

Tisvildevejen is a 77 km long hiking trail that takes you past cozy villages and beautiful nature experiences. The official starting point of the route is Esrum Kloster, an old Cistercian monastery, surrounded by beautiful long meadows. The area around Esrum Kloster is truly beautiful with old thatched houses, streams, and lakes. From Esrum Kloster, you can continue along the shore of Esrum Sø until you reach the small cozy village of Mårum. Here you can visit the idyllic rectory, Mårum Præstegård, and take a dip in the lovely swimming lake.

From Esrum Kloster, you can also choose to walk through Grib Skov. Here there are several marked hiking trails of different lengths that you can embark on. However, you can also choose to explore the area on your own, which offers hilly landscapes, bogs, flower meadows, and not least Store Gribsø, which you can walk around. At the end of the lake, there is a small picnic house, which is an ideal place to enjoy your packed lunch with a beautiful view of the lake.

Mushroom hunting in Tisvilde Hegn

Tisvilde Hegn is a formidable area for hiking. Here there is ample opportunity to enjoy nature, pick good mushrooms in the forest, or swim in the lovely sea. For example, you can take the trip from Tisvilde Hegn to Tibirke Bakker, which is a protected area with beautiful, wavy moraine slopes with grass and heather. From here you can follow the paths up to "Udsigten" (The View), which is 57 meters above sea level, from where you can see Arresø, Roskilde Fjord, Gribskov, and the rock formations from Kullen in Sweden.

Follow Vincentstien through the hills and down to the water

Go on a beautiful hike in the Vejby area, where there is both the possibility for a short relaxing trip in quiet surroundings, and longer walks through the area's beautiful nature. The Kløverstierne in Vejby consist of four routes, all of which have different lengths and take you past everything from windy coastal stretches to flat fields, cozy village houses, and heather-clad hills. You can advantageously choose one of the four marked routes, but you can also create your own trip. An obvious option is to visit Heatherhill, which is a protected natural area that almost resembles the Scottish Highlands. From Heatherhill, you can take Vincentstien through the hills and down to the water, from where you can enjoy the view over the Kattegat.

End the day and the hike by relaxing in one of our lovely Landfolk holiday homes. See our collection of handpicked holiday homes for your hike in North Zealand here.
