Culture on Denmark's nose: What to see and experience on Djursland
Although summer is often synonymous with relaxation, it doesn't mean every day has to be. You can easily discover a lot of culture in the summer landscape of Djursland.
Explore Fuglsøcentret
Recommended by Erna and Peter.
Located in Knebel, Fuglsøcentret is a cultural meeting place where you can play golf, rent bikes, or experience great live music all year round. It's a perfect place to seek out when you need to be active during your summer holiday after days of relaxation. Bike rental is also a great way to discover Mols Bjerge, as you can cover longer distances and see more of the scenic area.
Attractions that are a hit with the kids
A summer holiday in the Danish countryside is in itself a fantastic experience to give your children, but that doesn't necessarily mean they thrive best with days where everything moves a bit slower. Fortunately, there are plenty of child-friendly attractions on Djursland that both you and the little ones will enjoy. The obvious attraction is, of course, Djurs Sommerland, where you can explore their theme lands, try the most fun rides, and not least the water park.
To experience animals up close, you can visit Kattegatcentret or Ree Park. Here, the whole family can learn about the animal world.
Culinary experiences on Djursland
Denmark's nose is filled with great food and drink experiences during the summer. If you are a true beer connoisseur who appreciates the effort, Ebeltoft Gårdbryggeri is the place to visit. Not only can you buy good beers to take home, but you can also enjoy cold, refreshing drinks with a sea view in their outdoor areas.
If you prefer to cook at home but enjoy good ingredients, then Øer Gårdbutik is an obvious choice. Here you can stock up on good ingredients and at the same time enjoy the lovely surroundings. If you like coffee, visit Mols Kafferisteri. Here, emphasis is placed on bringing out the very best in their coffee beans. Buy a bag of freshly ground coffee and enjoy a coffee brewed from their beans on a good morning.
Take a journey back in time at Gammel Estrup
Gammel Estrup has 700 years behind it, adorning Djursland with its existence. Today it is Denmark's Manor Museum, but in the past, it was a place for counts and countesses. It is a historical experience for all ages, with activities for everyone. You can explore old halls, magnificent gardens, and not least interesting exhibitions that provide insight into life at Gammel Estrup.
Explore old streets in Ebeltoft
Recommended by Marie and Christian.
Ebeltoft is an old Danish market town, brimming with culture and history. The old half-timbered houses have adorned the streets since they were built and are still functional to this day. There are museums and small, cozy shops in the town that you can enjoy during your summer holiday. If you like street food and cultural events, stop by Maltfabrikken. Here you'll find workshops, live music, yoga, board games, and beer.
Learn to surf the blue wave
Blue Spirit is a surf school where their mantra is that everyone can learn to surf. Jacob and Robert are the masterminds behind it, and their love for water sports is why they teach surfing.
If you're not into surfing but want to try other water activities, you can go on a SUP safari or a windsurfing course. Blue Spirit also offers Para surfing, which is an adapted form of surfing for people with disabilities.
Hike in Mols Bjerge
Mols Bjerge National Park offers wild nature that can be experienced on its many hiking trails in the area. If you are on a cottage holiday in the area or wish to be, and want to explore nature, it's a good idea to start early in the morning. Pack a good lunch and good footwear so you can endure exploring for many hours. Experience the ancient landscape and its many viewpoints, as well as wild horses grazing in nature.
The nature in Mols Bjerge is special, as you can encounter rare animal and plant species that are not easily found in other Danish natural areas. You might be lucky to spot the Argus blue butterfly or the bumblebee robber beetle if you look very closely.
You can explore all Landfolk cottages here and get inspiration for your next cottage trip.
