Louise Holmskov: From Gap, to Strip, to Coat Rack
After an old shelf was taken down in the kitchen, there was suddenly a gap that needed to be hidden. This turned into a painted strip with handles, which ended up as the finest coat rack for kitchen utensils. We explain step-by-step how you can make a beautiful coat rack yourself.
Take advantage of the opportunities that arise when you take down old things. A gap has here been transformed into a nice homemade coat rack, which adds something special to the kitchen.
How to do it
1. Buy a strip and the handles you wish to attach. In this case, a dowel rod has been used, cut to the desired size.
2. Add handles by drilling into the handles from behind and inserting a screw. This way, the mounting of the handles is hidden.
3. Paint the coat rack in the desired color – possibly the same color as the wall for a complete look.

What were your thoughts on the transformation of the summer house?
I thought it was a super cool project and that the summer house owners were really brave. I was looking forward to trying out my interior design skills in a summer house, which I had never done before.
Which transformation in the summer house are you most happy with?
I am clearly most happy with the kitchen, which I think turned out really beautiful with few means. And I love that everything became the same color, so we created a unity in the room. Not to mention the nice handles.
What three things did you emphasize when transforming the summer house?
We wanted to create space for togetherness, as this was something the summer house owners placed great emphasis on in their use of the summer house. We wanted to invite the beautiful nature around the summer house inside, which we did by painting the window green – thus creating a frame for the nature outside. Lastly, we wanted to give the family a lovely kitchen that invited them to cook together and enjoy themselves at the kitchen table.
