An architectural gem in Røsnæs

Our names are Line and Christoffer, and together we have Helmut. Our summer house was designed by architect Thomas Høyer and built by Line’s father (who is a master carpenter) in collaboration with Line and Christoffer. The summer house was built as a low-impact home, and we have tried to minimize our carbon footprint in all our choices of materials and construction methods. For example, the cottage is built on stilts to reduce the need for a concrete foundation and to preserve the habitat the animals had created for themselves in the natural surroundings of our property before we arrived.

We’re both former Boy Scouts and love being out in nature. The cottage is our little sanctuary, where we can find peace away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Christoffer loves to fish, so he often walks down to the water’s edge and casts a line into the sea. We also go for walks in Vollerup Forest, which is home to a rich variety of wildlife, edible mushrooms, and a shelter area with space for overnight stays and bonfires.

If we’re going on a slightly longer trip, we like to drive out to Røsnæs to the old lighthouse, where you can see all the way to Samsø and have a cup of coffee while petting a goat. We’ve also spent many hours at Røsnæs Harbor, where a modern harbor bath has been built with a public sauna and changing rooms. A little gem if you’re into winter swimming and sauna sessions. If we’re looking for a good lunch, we always drive to Asgers Fisk in Kalundborg and buy delicious smoked fish and fish cakes with remoulade.
