The open kitchen has a small fridge and a couple of hotplates, but no oven. Two barn doors can be half-opened to let nature and the view in around the blue-painted wooden table. From here, you can look out to the terrace to the east, the area's thatched roofs and the plot's rosehip bushes. Two ship's bunks serve as both sofa and beds, and are bathed in evening sun through the beautifully renovated mullioned windows. The house is located in peace and quiet with a view of the dunes but still within the urban zone, so shopping and the city's vibrant music scene and cultural offerings can be reached on foot or by bike. We are a family of four who live on Zealand and visit Fanø many times a year. We love the summer, when there is plenty of life in the town and always a good place to be in the sun and shelter of the plot. But the dark months without tourists can also be a challenge, with the westerly wind shaking houses, trees and people. Old Fanø houses can be dark, but we wanted to make the house as light as possible. That's why there are skylights above the dining table and the loft, and a hand-carved, glazed facade facing south, so the house gets sun all day from the south, east and west. The kitchen and bathroom are new, the windows are original and some of the interior was
at local flea markets.
The 31 square meters feel spacious with high ceilings, and we enjoy being closer together when we are on Fanø than when we are at home. We have deliberately not installed Wi-Fi, but there are plenty of good games and books in the house. Basically, we think the house is best suited for adults, but write to us if you have children and are interested.
