The house is truly beautiful: a small, typical Norwegian red wooden house. The furnishings have been lovingly and thoughtfully chosen. You can tell that Siri and Simen put a lot of effort into the house and probably use it themselves with their family. Everything was clean, in good condition, and we had everything we needed. The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking, and all the appliances worked perfectly. A washer and dryer are provided, and laundry can also be hung up in the basement.
The large bed was very comfortable. Bedding and towels are included and were clean and in perfect condition. The bathroom is in good condition; the shower and hot water worked without any issues. Since the bathroom has no window, it’s a good idea to turn on the ventilation fan before taking a shower. Wi-Fi and cell service were excellent.
Heating is provided by a heat pump on the ground floor. To keep the upper floor warm, you should leave the door to the staircase open. Upstairs, there are also small electric heaters that warm up the rooms quickly. When an autumn storm is howling outside and the rain is coming in horizontally, you feel truly cozy and safe in this little cottage.
The house is by no means too big for two people. It can accommodate up to six people. It’s certainly ideal for a family with children, but it might get a bit cramped with six adults. The staircase to the upper floor is narrow and very steep; you should hold on with both hands. As a tall person (1.90 m), I didn’t bump my head anywhere, though the mirrors hang quite low. When going down to the basement, however, taller people should duck their heads.
Laukvik is a very quiet village and, at least in September, not touristy at all. From the house, you can see part of the harbor, and from the upper floor, you can also see the sea in the distance. The lighthouse and the pier are just a few minutes’ walk away—ideal for an evening stroll or for photographing the Northern Lights. You should be aware, however, that Laukvik is a bit off the beaten path: From the E10, it’s about a 20–25-minute drive on a typical Norwegian access road. It’s paved throughout and wide enough for two cars to pass each other. You’ll drive this route on almost every outing. Parking is available right in front of the house.
Communication with Siri was consistently very friendly, and she always responded quickly. Access via the door code is straightforward. We found the value for money to be reasonable. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, nature, and a wonderful Norwegian home away from home, this is the perfect place for you. We felt very comfortable here!
