Three generations of our family went on our first vacation in France—11 people in all—and had a truly wonderful week in this lovely and charming house in Charpey.
The house was generally as described and had plenty of space for all of us. We had ordered a linens package, so the beds were made upon arrival, and there were bath towels, which was very convenient. Note, however, that there were no pool towels, so you’ll need to bring your own.
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the hosts, who were helpful and accommodating. Overall, the kitchen was clean and well-equipped with most of what we needed during our stay. We especially made good use of the covered patio—it became the gathering spot for many cozy hours together. The kids were also thrilled with the ping-pong table and the two cute cats, which often stopped by the patio and the back entrance.
The pool was a big plus, especially given the extreme heat we experienced during the week. However, we were a bit disappointed with the pool area, as it didn’t quite live up to our expectations based on the photos. The area was very overgrown, and leaves, branches, and debris easily fell into the pool and were scattered around the pool area. There were five lounge chairs available, which unfortunately wasn’t enough for such a large group, and the space around the pool generally felt a bit cramped.
Because of the heat, we had trouble sleeping on the top floor, as the house doesn’t have air conditioning. The hosts had, however, been kind enough to provide fans, which helped.
We arrived in two electric cars and had been looking forward to using the car charger, as described in the listing. We expected a standard home charger, similar to the ones we use with our own charging solutions (Tesla and Clever). Upon arrival, however, it turned out that there was no actual car charger available, only a single-phase outlet. We hadn’t realized that we’d have to bring our own compatible charging plug—it was only by chance that we had one in the car, so we were able to charge. Charging was therefore more of a hassle than expected.
Overall, we had a really lovely stay in a charming house that was well-suited for a large family. With a little more maintenance of the pool area and clearer information about charging options for electric cars, the experience would have been even better.
