1676 mill on the River Merse in Maremma

This gem is a restored mill dating back to 1676, nestled right on the Merse River, surrounded by the woods and the tranquility of the Tuscan Maremma. As soon as you arrive, the rhythm of everything changes. The river does most of the work, and you can finally slow down.

The building holds three and a half centuries of history within its walls. Stone, wood, natural materials. Nothing flashy. The kind of interior where you notice things slowly: a detail here, a texture there. Spaces that embrace silence rather than compete with it.

The biodynamic garden is the heart of the project: a living vegetable garden that follows the rhythms of the moon and the seasons, where you’re welcome to get your hands dirty. All around, the farm animals give the place a pulse: Amrock and Marans chickens, Toulouse and Romane geese. There are fishing rods in the living room, free to take down to the Merse. No planning required.

The medieval village of Pari is a 10-minute drive away, perched on the hill. The Petriolo Thermal Baths are nearby: sulfur-rich thermal waters that flow freely in the open air along the Farma River. No reservations, no tickets. Agriturismo Val di Farma is within walking distance of the mill, through the woods.
