Beautiful, traditional cabin on Venabygdfjellet

This cozy log cabin is located on Venabygdfjellet, right near the beautiful Rondane mountain range. It almost feels like stepping into another time. With an open fireplace, small checked curtains, warm textiles, raw log walls and traditional bunk beds, the cabin is a beautiful, traditional gem that can really give you the traditional Norwegian cabin feeling that characterizes the Norwegian cabin culture.

The warm atmosphere in the cabin is emphasized by the traditional furniture and oil paintings, which, together with the beautiful light and views of Rondane and several of the area's mountain peaks, give you the feeling of being in the heart of the Norwegian mountains. There are all the modern elements you need, with a well-equipped kitchen where you can cook great meals together and a spacious bathroom with shower, but there's no TV or dishwasher, both of which invite you to slow down and spend time together in a different way. Cabin life at Haraldbu is therefore a kind of middle ground between old and modern cabin life.

The area around the cabin offers beautiful mountain hikes, outstanding routes for mountain biking, horseback riding and skiing, as well as the beautiful cultural heritage of the area. Here you can visit the stave churches in Ringebu and Lom, explore the local rocks and crystals that are extracted from the mountains here and have lunch at the bakery in Lom, which has perhaps one of Norway's best cinnamon buns. When you return home from a day of exploring, the sauna is the obvious place to end the day together. It's located just outside the living room, and letting your body be embraced by the warmth, combined with something good in a glass and cozy company, is something that can really be the perfect way to end the day.

Ski in/ski out: There are cross-country ski trails right outside the cabin.

Ski resorts nearby: 36 min to Kvitfjell Ski Resort and 55 min to Hafjell Alpinsenter.

Highlights from Birgitte, Nina og Katarina

Host since July 2023

  • Enjoy the cozy feeling of a genuine Norwegian cabin atmosphere with traditional furniture, warm textiles and fine, personal design choices
  • Explore the many exciting activities the area has to offer, with great cross-country skiing, mountain hiking, cycling and horseback riding
  • End the day together in the sauna and let the warmth embrace tired bodies after a long day hiking in the mountains

Our names are Birgitte, Nina and Katarina, we are five siblings who own this cabin, which today is primarily used by three of us, with our adult children. The cabin has been in the family for 45 years, and has been both expanded and significantly upgraded with a new floor plan, new kitchen, electricity and water and sewage. The cabin is decorated with a mix of traditional cabin furniture and beautiful old furniture and cabinets etc. owned by the family. We are also very fond of a bunch of paintings that our parents once hung up.

The area offers a lot to do and experience. There is fantastic skiing terrain with a large network of trails in winter, and it is always snow-sure. The cabin is also only 30 minutes by car from Kvitfjell ski center for those who want to ski or snowboard. Easy terrain surrounds the cabin, but the area is still surrounded by peaks that reach up to 1463 m above sea level. In summer there are lots of exciting things to explore, and many hikes right from the cabin door - easy or steep, deep river gorges and waterfalls, many good fishing lakes, stables with all kinds of horseback riding, proximity to Rondane for summit hikes, centrally located for trips to e.g. RIngebu with stave church, Lom, Sollia, Alvdal, Folldal mines etc. Very beautiful mountain terrain with rich animal and bird life, exciting ancient monuments from the Stone Age. The area is also very popular for all kinds of cycling.

We look forward to our guests being able to experience both the cabin and all the great things the area has to offer, summer and winter.
