Camilla and Asbjørn went on a weekend trip featuring sunshine, good natural wine, and windy weather at Solnedgangspladsen
A baby’s christening gave Camilla and Asbjørn, a couple from Aarhus, the perfect excuse for a weekend trip to Skagen, where they stayed at a summer house belonging to a colleague from * Landfolk*. The weekend offered a nice mix of celebration, vibrant atmosphere, and relaxation with a glass of wine in hand.
Do you often go to a summer house?
I love the beautiful Danish countryside, but I don’t have much experience with summer houses. We’re more the camping and tent types, and so is Asbjørn’s family. After a few tough weeks of exams and work, going to a summer house gave us an incredible sense of freedom, and now I actually think we both dream of being able to buy a summer house someday. Asbjørn even checked out the for-sale listings in Skagen while we were there.

What did you pack for the weekend at the summer house?
We’d borrowed the most amazing summer house from my colleague at Landfolk, and we knew it would have everything we needed for the kitchen, bathroom, and so on. We did, however, bring pillowcases and our own comforter—mainly because we don’t own bedding for single comforters. And then we were going to a christening on Sunday, which meant both nice shoes and two nice outfits for the special day. And yes, of course there was the christening gift and all our road trip snacks. We can’t go on a road trip without snacks—they always feel essential.
Are you the type to cook your own meals, or did you eat out?
I think we’re a good mix of the two extremes. We arrived in Skagen late, and it was sweltering, so we just wanted something light. We ended up buying some burrata, sourdough bread from Baghaven, and a variety of charcuterie, which we ate out on the terrace. For the christening, we had delicious food from Pakhuset, and in the evening we ate at Baghaven again. They have the most delicious little dishes from their own vegetable garden, and their natural wine is unbelievably good.
What did you read on your summer house trip?
My plan was probably to lie in the sun on the lounge chairs and read, but it just didn’t happen. Our days were filled with other wonderful things. I’ve been reading Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens for over a year, and even though it’s good, I just haven’t finished it yet. I think I’ll have to get back to it this weekend.

Did you go out and do anything?
We’d planned to go to Grenen, visit restaurants, and eat lots of ice cream at the various ice cream shops, but that’s not how it turned out—thankfully. We ended up having an incredibly relaxing weekend. The peace and quiet at the summer house were indescribable, and that was apparently exactly what we needed. That, and being blown about by the wind on the beach. Aside from plenty of good food, our wildest experience was probably our “Morten Koch moment”—cycling through the dunes in our party clothes. It makes me smile whenever I think about it.
