A New and Inspiring World of Vacation Homes

Why do you dream of a new world of vacation homes?

Camilla: “There are so many wonderful vacation homes in Denmark that passionate owners want to share with others. The challenge is simply that they haven’t had one specific place to call home—a community where people share common values and a passion for vacationing in a summer house. Now they’ll have that.”

Cathrine: “Of course, there are countless websites where you can rent or list vacation homes. Our experience in this industry is that it quickly becomes an impersonal experience, and that many vacation homes are pretty much identical—just rental machines. You don’t get a sense of who’s behind the vacation home—and we believe there’s huge untapped potential here. Our ambition is to create a platform for vacation home owners throughout Denmark and the Nordic region who are passionate about making the whole experience something special—and who want to share it with others, even while they’re still actively using it themselves. Landfolk is created for them.”

What does Landfolk stand for?

Cathrine: “Landfolk stands for a personal touch, aesthetics, and quality. We want to create the place where truly wonderful vacation homes belong. And where it’s a great experience to find and rent the perfect vacation home as the setting for your next vacation. We ourselves really appreciate the wonderful experiences you can only have in truly special vacation homes, and we’d love to help highlight what they have to offer.”

Camilla: “Right now, we’re handpicking the vacation homes that will be part of Landfolk for our launch in early 2021. They’re located outside the cities and close to nature. They’re owned by people who love the vacation home lifestyle and enjoy sharing it with others. It’s a whole different experience to stay in a vacation home where attention has been paid to every detail, and where you can feel that the place has a soul. We have huge ambitions for Landfolk and the world we’re building. It’s both rewarding and exciting to help highlight the joys of vacation home living, because we’re deeply passionate about it ourselves.”

Our Story So Far

Camilla: “We’ve worked together at Airbnb for the past few years, so we share a lot of common experience. We’re using that to make Landfolk a great experience for both vacation home owners and future guests. From our time at Airbnb, we know that many people find great joy in sharing their vacation homes with others. However, there are some challenges when, like most people, you live far away from your vacation home. We focus a lot on solutions where vacation home owners can get a helping hand with cleaning and preparing the vacation home.”

Cathrine: “We know it can be hard to find those hidden gem vacation homes, since they get lost in the vast selection. We see an advantage in highlighting the very best vacation homes—the ones with personality and a focus on quality. It’ll be exciting to add more dimensions, such as the needs of families with children and which vacation homes best suit those needs. And overall, it’s fantastic to be able to build the platform ourselves, together with our talented team, and bring to life all the ideas, dreams, and plans we have for Landfolk.”

What has your own experience with vacation home life been like?

Cathrine: “I practically grew up at my grandparents’ vacation home in Odsherred. They were both trained architects and built the vacation home themselves. They’ve eagerly told me how every nail was hammered in with loving care. Today, the vacation home has been passed down to the next generation, and the whole family uses it all the time. I’m very grateful to be able to pass on the summer house tradition to my children, and it’s definitely my favorite way to vacation.”

Camilla: “My grandparents often invited the whole family to stay together at one or more summer houses. I clearly remember the feeling of long days spent playing from morning to night with my cousins. We built forts outside and went on adventures in the woods. Now my parents have just recently bought a summer house by the Gudenå River. Before that, I spent an incredible amount of time looking for summer houses I wanted to visit. For example, when my friends and I were planning a weekend getaway together.”

What do you think makes a summer house special?

Camilla: “First and foremost, it’s about getting away from everyday life and all the daily chores. It gives me a sense of being able to slow down time a little. It’s a break where I can’t do anything about the laundry or other everyday tasks. You just have to be. It’s a chance to spend time with the people I care about—without noise or distractions. Breakfast can easily turn into lunch because we never got up from the table.”

Cathrine: “There’s something about being so close to nature—in a completely different way than we are at home. For example, there’s a truly unique view from our vacation home, since some of the walls are all glass from floor to ceiling. When I stand in the kitchen, I feel like I’m standing right in the middle of the forest. I’m surrounded by pure nature. It’s definitely my favorite spot in the vacation home—I always feel recharged when I let nature in.”

Landfolk.com is ready to welcome guests in early 2021. Right now, we’re working full steam ahead to get everything ready together with a handful of vacation home owners, all of whom have the most wonderful vacation homes in Denmark.
