5 unmissable summer events

You don't have to fly far to bring home great experiences for adults, children, and everyone in between. The Danish summerland offers plenty of experiences just waiting for you. We've gathered a handful of events along the North Zealand coast that you simply must experience this summer.

Dance until dawn at Musik I Lejet

In Tisvildeleje, you can experience an open-air festival packed with music, art, and gastronomy when Musik i Lejet takes place from July 21st to 23rd. You can sing and swing your hips all day long to the sound of Gnags or some of the many new, upcoming talents gracing the festival's stages.

When hunger strikes, you can stop by one of the many food stalls. Here you can refuel at Uformel's Tatarbar, Kiin Kiin's Asian dishes, Gorm's crispy pizza bases, and cool down with a Hansens Flødeis.

Take the family into nature with Meyers

In the middle of the school summer holidays, Meyers is once again organizing Verdens Bedste Skovtur (The World's Best Picnic) near Udsholt Strand in North Zealand. A few hundred meters from the coast, you can enjoy delicious baked goods, pork roast sandwiches, antipasti, and sourdough pizza, as well as cool down with a Mikkeller beer, kombucha, or a glass of wine in the beautiful nature.

The program for Verdens Bedste Skovtur is filled with activities for both children and adults, so all ages can participate. Mikael Bertelsen, Knud Romer, and Isam B. are just some of this year's picnic guests. Admission and entertainment are mostly free, but you must bring your own blankets, tableware, good mood, and perhaps swimwear for a dip in the blue waves. The local organizers of Verdens Bedste Skovtur will take care of the rest.

Experience the holiday paradise at Esrum Kloster

From week 26 to 31, you can experience Summer In Paradise at Esrum Kloster. Here, you and your family can explore what paradise truly means and entails for you. You can definitely prepare for creative workshops and conversations with your children that you might not have expected. Furthermore, you will be captivated by the unique history behind the monastery. In ancient times, the monastery was not closed to the public but was a gathering place for education, nobility, and the dissemination of knowledge.

Listen to the sounds of jazz in the Rose Garden

About an hour north of Copenhagen, you'll find beautiful Hillerød, where old and colorful houses along the shopping street lead to Frederiksborg Castle. With views over the Castle Lake and the castle in the background, this summer you can enjoy the sounds of Jazz i Rosenhaven (Jazz in the Rose Garden). Every Saturday until August 13th, there's an opportunity to experience everything from lively jazz to the more tranquil kind.

Unleash your inner sand sculptor

In Hundested, you can experience the Hundested Sand Sculpture Festival, where international artists have created fantastic works using – you've probably guessed it – sand and more sand. You can see everything from oriental, realistic works to more abstract ones with whimsical shapes. It's definitely a hit to bring the whole family along and experience the sand sculptures at the local harbor. You don't need to be an art connoisseur to enjoy the festival, and when you need a refreshment, you can stop by the festival's lovely café. You can also unleash your own artist and create sand sculptures and sand paintings. Perhaps you can pick up some tips and tricks for this summer's sandcastles on the Danish coasts?
