Summer houses both kids and grownups will love
Highlights and descriptions have been auto-translated from Danish
In the small, yellow cottage at Havnsø in West Zealand you can feel at home. Nature is invited in on the few cosy square metres. You will experience this when you recognise the colours of nature in the interior, which consists mainly of second-hand finds and homemade furniture. Most of the space is in the common room with living room and kitchen. You can enjoy a homemade Piña Colada on a bar stool in the kitchen or serve a delicious brunch for the whole family. On a rainy day, watch a good movie together or get out your knitting while the fire crackles in the wood stove. In the bedrooms, you'll again be embraced by a carefully composed colour palette and feel a sense of calm with everlasting flowers on the windowsill and bamboo bedspreads. In one room, you'll feel like you're lying in a cave, just closing your eyes in the sunshine. In the other, you can gather in the evening and watch a beautiful sunset. When it's time to take a shower, you don't have to worry about whether there's enough hot water for the next person in line. There's a flow-through water heater, so you can wrap yourself in a hot shower with peace of mind. In the garden, you can walk around and smell the flowers, or watch the life in the butterfly bush as you feel the grass tickle your bare toes. On the south-west facing terrace, you can lounge and take a nap or just watch the children playing tag on the grass. Set the table and enjoy the fragrance that spreads as you grill virgin lobster tails or a good roast. Jump in the hot wilderness pool with a cold beer and watch the light change as the sunset paints colors in the sky. You can also explore the local area. At the harbour's fish market, Havnsø Fisk, you can buy fresh salmon and drink a cold rosé. At the Pancake House you can eat a warm, soft pancake, and the children can play in the nature playground or watch the pigs, turtles or parrot. There is also a sauna on the harbour. If you like winter swimming, you can book a one-day ticket, jump into the water from the jetty and then gather for a chat in the warm sauna. You can also pack a big lunch, bring your bike and board the Nexelø Ferry for a day trip to one of the nearby islands. In summer, it's also worth keeping an eye out for flea markets on the harbour, where you can pick up some special finds.
Christina & Sebastian
Host since June 2022
Our names are Sebastian and Christina. In 2018, we bought our little yellow pearl to be our hobby project while we were still students. We also wanted a sanctuary with sprouting bushes, flowers and lots of grass for our four-legged love, Berta. For three years we renovated the house until finally we had the cottage we wanted. It's now our love child. We call the house The Smile because we met in The City of Smiles, and the cottage is a place that puts smiles on our faces. In the cottage we have created a setting where we are always greeted by peace, where we can recharge and be with the people who matter most. We love to play games in the garden, grill sausages or take a dip in the wilderness pool with friends and family.
